Mech Utility

    I've looked over the forums and not found very much on the subject. Unfortunately I haven't watched an awful lot of the livestreams or livestream recordings so if it contains the information then please send it my way.

    I know that there is a lot of emphasis and talk on the Mechanized suits and their use in combat but are there going to be any other uses for them?

    My thought is that it would be a lot of fun to have mechs that would accomplish certain tasks:

    • Let you carry heavy and dense materials that you might not be able to handle on your own
    • Be equipped with a more powerful mining laser (upgrade-able) that could collect more surface area or higher tier mats
    • Walk the bottom of oceans and explore the depths with the headlamps looking for rare mats and sunken treasures.
    • Be a mobile deployment facility for specific sorts of camps having a research, cooking, et cetra emphasis. This one would give mechs customize-able modules that you would outfit them with to serve certain purposes.
    • Space walks around your ship or high in the planets atmosphere.
    Nothing here is essential to gameplay of course, just something fun I thought about.

    **Coming back and reading this it looks like a suggestion when it was at first just a pondering. If it needs to be moved then by all means please do so**

    These are some interesting thoughts you've had. Would be very interesting to be on an ocean planet storlling along the bottom in a mech with floodlights.

    I'll probably get some picture stuck in my head about it now and have to draw it...

    It'll probably be a post release feature though.
    Still, Devs? In the words of Captain Picard, "Make it so." please?

    I like the idea of mining mechs. Honestly at these sort of tech levels, mining by hand just seems barbaric.

    My only problem with the miner mech idea is that the terrain of these kinds of games goes against them. Unless they have mining and advanced movements capability.

    Great idea. I am absolutely indifferent to combat mechs, at least large ones — exoskeletons/power armors are okay, but large and huge walkers just aren't seem plausible to me, because of varying reasons. And even ignoring plausibility, I can still see myself piloting only something small, agile and mobile in combat.

    On the other hand, utility mechs and other vehicles are pretty interesting. Even if they are huge. Like this thing: one, two. Imagine the speed of mining.

    Oh, and if there will be small mech/vehicle with onboard storage area available, I will pilot it always.

    Great idea on the other hand tho! Love the utility mech. It would also be cool for an advanced "mini-bot" that you could program with different modules. Like.. craft a module that scripts the bot to automatically collect a certain ore on its own and it will return to the base when it has filled its inventory. Of course crafting the modules and the bot would require rare materials, but it kind of follows along with the mech idea I think. You have all this technology supposedly if you can board a spaceship and stuff.. so why are there no mechanical devices that ease some of our troubles with utility functions.

    I could have sworn that like a little less than a year ago we were discussing similar things, mech customization and whatnot. Cannot link a thread but that first mock-up of a mech drove people nuts over ideas for weeks. I do remember that.
