There will likely not be one since the past few times they posted one, missed it, and got chewed out and now like Pavlov's dogs with the bell they associate giving a release date they are no 100% sure they can hit has meaning they will have to face a wave of angry post for taking extra time to get the update ready for release. Sad but seems to be the case.

Didn't Mollygos say she was going to be better about that? I feel like she said something semi-recently to that effect. /shrug

My guess is that Molly optimistically said that, but realistically has zero free time. I saw her online not too long ago, and it's well past business hours in the UK. If she's working during her off hours, I'm pretty sure she doesn't have time to do any additional tasks, unless they are immediately critical and would cause new problems RIGHT NOW.

This is not to say that it should not be done, I think that "delegation" is one of the hardest skills to learn. Recognizing that you do not have the time to do all the things you want to do is important, and perhaps someone else can offload Molly with some other tasks, or someone else can take this task off of Molly's list and fulfill it.

  6. I wanted to weigh in again here; but aren't the updates being posted in the forums over at steam?

I see a pinned Nightly Build thread and a Pinned thread for Supernorn's armor update for the 4th.

I'm looking at the news for Starbound on Steam and the last post is from July 1 and it's about the 10 best mods.

@Izzabelle Means posted onto the steam forums. To get the post on the news requires they post it as a community announcement. In order to not flood the news and let users post faster then the mods on occasion they are sticking a thread about the newest update until a new one is made at which point it will be unstickied and the new one will get sticky. Currently @Supernorn is doing this I beleive.

The last announcement is from June 17th about the nightly builds and seems to be the only announcement from what I can tell, though it does have a link to the main site which is good. As for the discussion threads, they're all extremely recent with July 2nd being the oldest sticky, so it looks like they just started paying attention to the Steam forum.

  11. Yah, Steam is a little funny in how it's set up

    News is for media coverage

Announcements are for changes actually pushed to Steam

Discussions is where we'll have progress updates pinned.

At last now it's clear why people are so confused and/or frustrated over there, the whole thing looks like they just recently started to post news there even though those forums have been around for about six months now :V

  13. Yeah -- we lacked some staff over there for a bit -- and Molly made the push to make sure things stayed updated over there. It's tough, because we're kind of spread a little thin. But it's not our goal to actually alienate entire communities, so we had to fix it.

I think the original idea was that people would click the join the community button on the launcher rather then the community hub button on steam. Maybe just a bit.

I can't remember 100% for sure, but I think that's how I learned about these forums. I think that could be because the "link to website" button on the Steam sales page doesn't work, at least not for me.

I always forget that button is on the launcher and I think I'm not the only one to over look it.

well, i will say i have felt semi swindled. it seems like the modding community is what is keeping this game playable. The only real updates as far as content have been months ago. yes it is alpha but a 3 year alpha and the injection of monies chucklefish received makes me concerned. i love the base ideas that make up Starbound but i really find it hard to play the game without any mods. The lack of content and the lack of simple things to make the average player stay interested are just not there yet. I am sincere when i say i hope i am proved wrong and that this game becomes more of a work by the modding community then by Chucklefish. Time will tell and i am will be here tinkering around with the game.

yes and no.... there are many Early-Access games that do well and receive good Pub, its all about how you handle the consumer. It is true its a new idea and a new frontier, and yes players and developers are finding out about the whole process, but it seems like there are a few simple things Dev's and consumers should do and avoid.

Players/consumers need to be patient and keep an open mind to what it takes to produce a game without the support of a studio like "EA" or others. They need to be active in the forums with CONSTRUCTIVE feedback. Consumers/players should ask to see what they paid for and are in store for, but also need to understand not all investments are good ones, And most of all consumers/players should avoid jumping to conclusions about what the Devs are and are not doing. IF said company makes a timeline and does not stick to it, then yes the Consumer/players deserve a response as to why the timeline is not being respected.

I am sure there are more things i could put on this list but these few seem a good start.

Devs/Company of said game". The devs/comp. should be accountable for ones actions. They should make efforts to try to avoid making the player/consumer feel Ripped Off /Scammed. They should spend time on twitter/facebook listening to constructive feedback and not spend massive amounts of time fighting trolls, that time could be spent coding/producing content to silence them. IF you sell a product that is mostly a prototype/incomplete project no one in the real world would buy it without some type of accountability tied to the project, with that said the company selling such things as a Alpha version of an incomplete game should really think about the process in which it has to endure to reach the finish line. not all programmers are sound business people, and that can and does create some very unplesent situations. Forget the trolls and the egos and take a look at what you have produced in context to what you promised. alot of early access game developers are promising way to much, the devs need to be honest with themselves and with the consumers. What i wish from an investment is communication that is honest and upfront. Be honest that something came up, do not shoot me a lie as they are most obvious. IF a company makes 4 million dollars in kickstarts and 1 month of early access i expect them to spend the money on sound game investment. Maybe hire more help and make a quality product instead of thinking they can skim by with a half assed attempt at a product.

Again there is more to the lists that could be added, but its hardly fair to blame a few trolls and the masses as to why most Early- Access games are getting a bad wrap. look more to question of "Is my investment paying off" "Are my expectations being met" if so/not how do i go about getting an answer to my concerns". To be honest the gaming community is at a crossroads. People/gamers really need to think before tossing money to unproven gaming companies. would you give your money to an unproven stock? think about it.

Have you seen Starforge that game just went to beta and steam's top reviews are all not recommended but this is from the same people who watched the videos the developers gave for it (the stuff shown was not implemented and some still isn't a example of what you should not show in steam because people immediately thought that was what the alpha was at) but a lot of the reviews from steam are from people who did zero research watched the videos clicked buy and did not pay attention to the Alpha part of it. Hilariously it was in the title in caps seriously Starforge ALPHA maybe they thought that was the game title idk.

I read the reviews on steam for early access just to see where the game is at. I think they should be removed after the game is up to 1.0 because who wants to read reviews from people that played a game in alpha and have no intention to update those reviews because they got burned by EA. That seems like a disservice to the developers that those reviews are still there but hopefully the same reviewers will update their reviews.
