For the glitch race, you should base the guy on the bot from the movie Moon and have kevin spacey do a voiceover. On a seriousnote, how about a ships computer I could access from certain interfaces (built and installed by the player, of course) thruout the ship.
It should be a robot butler with butler phrases tailored to the player character, or the ship's AI. Maybe add a sidequest or hidden/secret quest to make the AI go the way of HAL and have to be saved. Another cool feature would be to have the ship's AI be able to mine or otherwise do something with the planets/star system with certain upgrades at a higher tier. There are a lot of possibilities with this idea, it's great!
I've had this thought for a while now, that there needs to be some use for alternate characters that each player creates. Maybe a placeholder NPC can exist on the ship, but after the player makes their second character, one of these alternate characters becomes the ship's NPC? I think it would add some depth to the game if a player's other characters could show up on their ships.
That actually looks pretty cool. But I'd start it as a member of your own race, but in the future you could change it if you do a quest or something. As long as it's not shoved in your face, and that you could still get quests from villagers and the such.
Are you kidding me? These ships got freaking teleporters and FTL-travel on board. If my smartphone can handle siri, i would think those spaceships would be able to, too. I really like this Idea. And i am all for it being the ships Ai. This would be additionaly awesome as it would be able to improve with the ship. First it would just be a voice in your ship, maybe able to be talked to over a console, which gives you tipps for your progression. Later it would be able to get a hologramic body, walking around your ship. Maybe then it would be able to be summoned on the planet to give infos about things. And at last it would get a full robotic body, maybe even able to go down to the planet with you and fight. Additionally it gives the ability to write some funny dialogues. Sarcastic murderous robots are always fun. "You should beam down to the planet to get some basic ressources. I sure hope i configured the teleporter right, it would be a shame if your nice body got splatered all over the planets surface
I like the idea of giving personality, but please don't focus on making it based on race, you should have cultural differences, but going to change their personality by race is where most sci-fi themed things fail.. racism exists in sci-fi, too.
I posted an idea about AI characters a while back: http://community.playstarbound.com/...ligence-as-guide-and-virtual-assistant.30697/
This looks really great so far, and it seems to me like a brilliant Idea because it will add more life to the ship/noob friendly interface. I also think though, that like anything in a sandbox game you should give people a choice as the whether they wanna take the AI. This being so that a roleplayers can have a choice on whether they want to be stranded and alone vs. making their way through the game and accumulating a crew. If the player chose to not have the AI you could just make a separate method of introducing the upgrades/game content. Just a thought I'm sure everyone will be happy with the game no matter how you guys go about developing this interface further. Keep up the good work!
Whoah, this sound awesome. Maybe for the apex it could be a mr. handy esque robot, and for the Florans it could be a flower coming out of the wall, etc. I think they should all definitely be unique from one another, and It think they should also have their own unique way of getting to the ship. Also, thank you guys a lot for finally giving updates on your progress, I think it will make things much smoother from here on out.
Perhaps an option to remove this pesky AI would be nice as well. AI is just the system trying to keep you down, mannn.
It's nice to see some Starbound relevant updates -- Lets keep it going! Is there anyway we can get some post in the future that explains / compares / contrasts the intended purpose of the ship environment to a home base on a planet? Right now they very much overlap and it'd be nice to see design specs / discussion on where the team wants to take both.
