Mature players only server!

"Mature" can be construed many ways, for instance my idea of "mature" language contrasts with a large segment of internet users and even the developers of certain games these days. (Thinking of a certain sandbox driving/shooter game with V in the title that can't seem to get through a single sentence without using at least two "mature" words."/end rabbit trail)
Perhaps it would be best if you spelled out your definition of "mature".

 

Opinionated. In terms of the internet and the Starbound community in particular, I would think mature pretty much means not being "one of those kids". to me, however, excessive use of strong language is not mature.

Enthusiastic. May I offer my presence on your interstellar journey? I think you will find it suitable that my verbal transmitter ports are adaptable to any audio-communication software that you wish to use.

 

Pending your definition of 'mature players'. In my head all I see is a giant nursing home for the elderly on a planet full of streets with names like 'blueberry lane' and 'apple street' with color coded guide lights that cannot be seen since most people residing on this nursing home planet are all color-blind anyway.

 

How will you decide who is mature or not. On servers I am always respectful if that means anything.
I am only joking once I know everyone well enough.
I also think I would enjoy it a lot more if there was a server that had mostly forum goer's on it.
It still annoys the hell out of me when some of the good servers I apply for only accept +18 because you don't know who exactly is "mature". I know some kids who are 11 and I first thought they were older than I am, and I have met people 18+ who act like 11 year old's.

 

I can explain that, what happens between 11 and 18. A mixture of teenage hormones, sexual angst, legal porno access and probably alcohol.

Sorry if this is rude, but I will be making use of the views in this thread to announce my own server, for immature users.

If you use the paint tool to paint anything other than male private parts on walls you will be permabanned.

 

This should be pretty good. I hate those people/creatures that you get when you go on a public server in almost any game who think that swearing constantly, pretending to act tough and making penis jokes makes them some asinine equivalent to cool. Don't even get me started on Minecraft.

 

When people talk about mature servers I always imagine 90 year olds at the computer......

The computer isn't on of course and they are all trying to call their grandchildren to find out if you need stamps for emails.

 

Or they just didn't grow up.

 

The problem is that as soon as the server is overrun with immature players and server mods / admins the "mature" filter won't work anymore to keep a standard.

 

That would be if the server is public. Since it's whitelisted the mods/admins will pick who they deem mature, and if they are immature in-game they will be banned/punished asap.

 

The problem is that such a system is inherently "immature."

 

How is filtering out those who do not know how to behave immature? It is preventing a future disruption and grievance?

It's a system based on predetermination and prejudice. The prefix (haha) is the prime issue.

It's based on that persons past behaviors. When people are accepted into a server it isn't just pure luck or just because the admins are feeling generous. They put an app in, so they know who is a friendly person. Someone who is a troll, jerk, or someone with a short fuse who ruins the whole server due to server spam and "abusing" other players.

 

Perhaps "immature" isn't the way to describe the system so much as "faulty."

An application proves nothing. People say they will or will not do things that they will do the opposite of given the situation in reality.

(lol ok good!) I was a server Co-owner once for another game, I was in-charge of the forum (taking apps., keeping it looking pretty, and answering complaints.) When I was accepting apps, I looked into the persons profile and I checked if they were being lying about being a good sport by asking references they gave me, and snooping through their posts on forums (basically stalking them for a few minutes). Most of them looked like they were good on their word. The only time's I accepted them and they were stupid is when they didn't have enough forum activity. Most of the one's I didn't accept, complained and trolled the forum, and started messaging my "colleagues". The one's I did accept I am still friends with to this day. I think it is a pretty good system when implemented right.
