Matter Manipulator Scanning

Why why oh why are we no longer able to scan using the MM ?
This was a very useful thing when digging for ore of exploring caves.
Now i can only "scan" as far as MM range, and that makes it useless in the later parts of the game.
Please bring it back :C

It's main purpose wasn't to "scan the ore"

 

it was literally the only reason to carry the thing around. after the first 5 minutes or less of gameplay on a freshly created character, the matter manipulator is now completely useless.

 

There is an important issue with the matter manipulator.

Let me put it that way. Because of its mining speed and mining capabilities (number of blocks at the same time), my new character starts like this:
- Get down on the planet - chop 2-3 trees & 10 cobble.
- Make a crafting table, then a stone pickaxe.
- Get 10 more cobblestone, and make an axe.
- Do whatever afterwards, remembering to put the matter manipulator in my ship's storage for the rest of eternity.

If they don't offer a way to upgrade it, to at least use it as a backup tool when your main is depleted, this item has no future.

 

I have a hope that at some super high level, we will be able to upgrade the matter manipulator and replace our axes and pickaxes and this super high tech sci fi item will be better than hitting things with other things and become the all purpose tool it should be.

 

I use the matter manipulator to mine things that are aaaalllll the way over there and I don't wanna be hashed to build a platform ladder too it. (Or I wanna start a sand fall from the other side.)

Otherwise I like to just keep it in my inventory cause it's visually what your character uses to place objects, and if I'm placing objects with my MM... it doesn't make sense to not have it on me. >.>

 

My point exactly. After first few minutes the MM becomes near useless :C
The scanning feature was the only thing that i used. Now it's rusting in my storage box.

 

Scanning? I didn't even know you could scan stuff :-/

 

It allowed you to see 4blocks anywhere in your field of view. Now it only shows the blocks in its range. I called it scanning
