MATTER MANIPULATOR EXPLOIT!

When mining, dont you think torches/flash light should be the way to see where you are going? i have destroyed my flash light because i can use the matter manipulator to uncover the whole screen in a few seconds O_O

I really hope this was not intended for the game....
The matter manipulator should be for interacting with blocks, not used as a super flash light

What is your take on the matter? Maybe i'm the only one that thinks this is overpowered in some cases

 

You must have a very small screen.

 

Could you explain what you mean? What do you mean you use the matter manipulator to "uncover" the screen?

 

Perhaps he means he uses the small 2x2 grid of blue/red color you get from the Matter Manipulator to "Sweep" the screen to look for ore, Not certain.

 

if you select the matter manipulator, you can move your cursor all over the screen and uncover black spaces.... and btw Wyvern... i have a 24 inch monitor and can do it in less than 10 seconds.. you must have a slow hand then =/

Well, if you want to explore the depths fighting the monsters there using only the light from your MM, then you can feel free to discard the wide cone of light flashlight and all of your torches. Me? I'm sticking with them.

 

Doesn't seem like an expoit to me, it's a tiny grid of colored light, now if it were a clear white light, or a 6x6 area, sure that'd be pretty crappy, but if you're going to take the time to scan your whole screen for ore constantly, well, thats the play style you want to use to find your ore

 

Personally I like how you can use that little grid for what I THINK is what people here refer to as Spelunking. It feels different. Indeed it can be used to look for areas you can't normally see. But what gives, it's an interesting piece of modern technology.

 

Oh okay, I understand. Yes, you could do that, but I don't think it feels like an exploit. I think most people wouldn't want to scan chunk by chunk to find things, even if it is quick. But I understand what you're saying.

 

My question to those that think this is efficient: Do you use a proper brightness setting or do you have your brightness so high it washes out your black? As some one who, in Minecraft for example, plays with the brightness so low caves are pitch black without a light, AKA the proper brightness setting because no lights should mean utter darkness, the method you describe to scan the screen is pretty useless. Perhaps the problem is not with the manipulator but rather with your brightness settings.

 

I use torches... they are extremely effective and the best source of light what i mean is... when youre digging around, you know which direction to go because the matter manipulator exposes any darkness... it feels like more of an adventure when you can only see 6-8 blocks away etc...

As i said, to me its an exploit, but you guys maybe think its perfectly fine to be able to see anything on the map without torches and flashlight?

 

it feels like people are just complaining about things to have something to complain about now... in no way is this an exploit.

Are you on x 2 zoom or the default x 3 zoom?

yeah try on 2X zoom. its not as easy. though if you really wanted to and had the all seeing cape you could scan pretty much an entire Chunk about as big as 4 screens with that method. time consuming though

 

Not really an exploit, you have to give up one of your hand slots and be vulnerable while you whisk your mouse across the screen. Seems much easier IMO to just place a few torches down.
