Matter block containers and giant spinning 'pixel' containters, WHY DO THEY HURT YOU?

Except if they WERE following the D2 shrine examples then they messed it up having so many NEGATIVE effects you can get compared to positive.

The negative effects are indeed severe. And it would be real great if the buff lasts as long as Diablo's ones :p

Yeah, the reward isn't worth the risk for me, I just walk on by them.

The buffs would be more useful if they were items you could use at your discretion. Then your trade-off is something that hurt/kill you, for an item that could help you in a sticking situation later. The "glow" buff would be really useful in caves, even with the lantern on your back. The buffs should also be made longer, so a buff item lasts for 2 minutes or so.

If it' going to do health damage it needs to be percentage current health damage, so they can't ever actually kill you. Being killed by a rotating buff container just feels wrong.

There's some sort of 'Berserk' buff which is good too. You movement speed and attack rate are boosted dramatically for the moment... but the duration is short, for only roughly 10 seconds.

When the optimal solution to a mechanic is to avoid using it, it isn't a very good mechanic. I don't even bother with those things. It's a stim, and getting stims is profoundly easy. I have never felt compelled to risk a large portion of my pixels for a minor, situationally useful buff I have in surplus clogging up my inventory at all times. "Boy, a slight chance of getting the glow buff sure is worth thousands of pixels if I lose". Yeah, no.

The matter things can be incased to keep yourself safe before activating.

The "shrines" are supposed to be risky. The problem right now is that there is no reward worth risking the instant death. If the only penalties are negligible there's be no point in NOT using them. They just need a better reward for the risk they carry.

Yes, you COULD encase it but really, you shouldn't HAVE to, and really, what is the point of making us mine the damn matter blocks, just spit them out on the damn ground.

You don't have to, now do you? It's an explosion... you can survive without doing it if you want but that doesn't mean it's the best way. You have the ability to place your own blocks for a reason, it's not just building houses.

You CAN avoid insta-death, if you jump away right after activating. The little gas cloud pours out and it tells you if it's a boost. You can either wait for it to dissipate or run into it to claim the boost. Same with the reactors. I still got hit by a few blocks and took damage, but survived. Didn't find that out on my own either. I read it on these forums somewhere.

Still, even if death is avoidable, the benefits aren't worth it. I heard you can get techs from them, rarely, but I've never gotten anything but lame boosts and death. Maybe they become more common in higher tiers...?

Funny thing is that they were referred to as shrines in the dev-notes a long time ago.

Im telling you. just stand as far away as you can while still being able to activate (spinning thingies). They cannot reach you at that distance so they will never be a danger

That or just not waste any time or effort on something that is useless to begin with with durations of a sneeze.

The speed one is very handy if you looking for a dungeon. Can half the time it takes to cross one side of a planet. The Sparkle one is real handy if your exploring at night. Maybe Im just optimistic :p

It's not that they aren't useful, it's that they aren't useful enough to risk death over.

But...but... there is no risk. Only silly people who stand right next to the thing that could potentially kill you get killed.

Except when people first come upon these things they won't know that you can just up and die and, will be sitting in their ship wondering wtf just happened, regardless of being able to activate them at safe range doesn't change the fact that currently, they are a complete waste of time and energy.

well you can keep going past them and missing out.

Also, if you destroy the ground under them, they turn into pixels.

Watch the endgame boss be a maniacal evil scientist who can't be harmed unless you activate these capsules to inflict damage on him. Picture running into a room with 100 of these and hoping you get the "hurts boss" result and not the "burned, poisoned, teleported outside the doors, one hit-ko" effect.
