Here's to opening a can of worms!

    Here it goes:

A "Material Animator" would be a type of matter manipulator in the form of a gun, or glove, or... something. Anyway, to the main gist... This device would turn virtually any material into a living "creature". The size of the creature could vary from a 1x1 block up to a 4x4 block of all the same material. Different materials would "breed" different results. A 4x4 mud block would yield some mud being, for example. Almost all of these beings would be neutral, and capable of being pets.

I would imagine a device like this would be either a 1-use, or drain much battery power.

    Any thoughts on the matter?

Sorta like creating a golem out of that stuff?

Yep, and it would work with about any natural material, and maybe even some non-natural too. So, maybe plant material would give you a giant walking plant, and maybe ash would give you a cloud that, if made a pet, follows you and greatly reduces MOBs from noticing you easily (maybe a second or 2 before they can register your presence, instead of the instant "in sight"). So many creatures to think up of now! Ahhh!

Now then, what if you used it on a dead animal, would it bring the dead creature's body "back" to life, or just make some horrid flesh monster?

This would be an interesting thing to mess around with considering if you could mix and match to create a monstrosity.

I think it would have to be restrained to "blocks", but maybe the "flesh monster" wouldn't be too bad of alternative. The mixing and matching would be a bit dicey and problematic, I'm sure, for programming though. So, so, so many possibilities would be made. I mean, if they set it up with parameters such as "more than 50% clay yields a clay monster," but other blocks alter the colour slightly, and with added stat boosts, then maybe mix 'n' match would work. To add quite a few more options, maybe the top 2 "ingredients" of the block choice would yield different results, such as iron and clay making big clay caterpillars with iron armour for its different sections, or wood and lava would create a fiery "ent" (tree-man)... the possibilities! THE POSSIBILITIESSSS!
