I'm getting massive lag when I get to certain areas underground. I can't place torches, kill monsters (they freeze), or destroy/place blocks. I can run around, and use my weapons and flashlight though. I'm only a few hours into the unstable update, but I'm not going to be able to even get off the planet at this rate. I've attached my starbound logs (from several sessions, because it's happened every time I've played).

I looked through the logs and it doesn't look like it's giving any errors about this though. I've tried on both the regular version and the OpenGL version. I ran a diagnostic too. If there is any other information I should include, let me know.

Can confirm this. I am getting the same.

It is very frustrating. I have to wait for about a minute for the game to unfreeze and it happens about every 2 or 3 minutes.

It also boosts CPU usage to extremes

Oh yeah forgot to mention, if you try to save and exit the game during a freeze (at least for me) the game freezes and I get the little spinning wheel (windows 8.1). I did not notice the CPU usage thing though. I will check that out right now. I'm running an i7 4790 though so I don't know if I'll see anything.

I have the same processor. The computer starts making a lot of noise once the lag kicks in

Ok just tested. Starbound was at 18% or so CPU usage and when the lag happened it jumped to 22%. Not very large for me, but noticeable. I'm not hearing noise from my computer though.

I think it might have something to do with the layers that are loading, as I ran quickly enough down my tunnels that I got to a point where I was falling and the world wasn't loading. Like there was a line of unloaded area underneath me.

Sound about right. Oh well it's unstable so bugs like these are bound to crop up

Yeah I just wanted to make sure that it was like an actual bug and not something I was doing wrong. It's also frustrating because other people seem to be running unstable fine and they've at least gotten off their planet.

Oh what GPU do you have? I've heard Starbound doesn't run well on AMD? I've got a Radeon 7770 HD. I'll be upgrading to a 970 soon, but right now this is what I've got and I wonder if it's the problem.

Ok so not a video card issue. Guess we'll have to wait for a response from the devs.

Are you playing full screen or windowed? Might wanna see if it makes any difference. I've noticed that it's not consistent, sometimes I get the lag and sometimes I don't, in the same areas - seems less when fullscreen. No idea why.

I've tried both. I get about the same lag no matter if it's windowed, fullscreen, or borderless window (using Borderless Gaming).

I'm just getting lag whenever I go anywhere with lots of blocks and/or objects. (The Outpost, Dungeons, etc.) Anywhere else, my FPS is 60, but when I go to dungeons or the Outpost, it shoots down like I'm playing a triple-A game on an Asus Chromebox. (Okay maybe not THAT fair, but you get the point.)

It isn't my computer because all my other games run at 50-60 FPS. I think it's just the fact that we are playing the UNSTABLE version of the game. It's unstable for a reason.

Tried reducing the resolution? I had to set mine up, because by default it was something higher than what my desktop was set at. I play in full screen. I have noticed lag spikes here and there, but then again I am on an Intel graphics HD 4.... laptop. Runs fine for the most part with me. Just figure I would mention that question just in case you haven't tried that to see if reduces or not...

Just wanna say I am also getting this, and the outpost is nearly unplayable in terms of lag. Got myself a pretty nice set up here so Im hopeing its an unstable thing. Though it sucks that I cant somehow fix it on my end.

Yep, I think this issue happens to me with exception that I don't even need to go deep inside the ground. I just need to walk left a little bit and then the ground is like sliced and there are no blocks whatsoever on half of the screen. If I try to jump in the empty area I freeze in the air. Can "use" my sword for example, but not sure if it does anything. If I wait very patiently there is a camp around the area that is missing and eventually it loads and shows it. But I am speaking for 15+ seconds of load times... which kinda makes the game un-playable at this point. Please I was waiting this "stable unstable" build whole year and now I cant enjoy it? :O

PC Specs are way above that should run this otherwise nice looking pixel game ( I like pixels =_= ).
Core i7 3630QM, GT 650M SLI, 16 GB RAM, Intel SSD, etc. The game is running on the SSD, so I am certain that loading speed should not be issue.

P.S. I am C++ developer, so I can do some tricks / w/e info you want that I can gather ( can reverse the executable as a last resort xD ), so drop me message if you need assistance.

Oh, and please check how you detect for "sneaky URL's"... It did not accepted part of my log file, so I was forced to upload it >.>

I'm having the same issue, if I got a certain depth on the planet, I get lag spikes. I don't appear to be near anything in particular that may be lag inducing. Lag spike hits, can move and jump but can't place torches Mine or attack monsters.

Me and my bf have the same issue, on multiplayer instead.

  20. Welcome to Unstable everyone.[DOUBLEPOST=1419273767][/DOUBLEPOST]
Youre new. Its picking up the relative paths in the log file when your starbound directory is listed and thinking its a URL. Post a few more times and you will be fine. You need to have more than 3 posts before you can include links in your posts. Its just an anti-spam countermeasure.

Also... You have 2 graphics cards SLI'd in a Laptop...? I don't believe I have heard of such a thing. Pix pl0x.

Actually.... http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/y500/#tab-tech_specs Do I win? Turns out your laptop is literally THE ONLY one with that type of architecture... Pretty bad ass man.
