Marketing Starbound

Yeah the game does need more exposure that's for sure. I would have never found out about this myself if it hadn't been for a giveaway on steamgifts ! I'm sure that if certain youtubers get early access to the game's beta we will have more people coming in.

 

Indeed i have seen for the first time the game on steam community.

 

And so does this forum. Holy hell, it's overwhelming.

Onto to topic though; I personally believe that there is nothing to worry about. I hate to be that guy that brings this up, but as soon as John Bain and Jesse Cox get their hands on it, the game is sold.

I just posted on facebook and i guess more people will go for it since mouth to mouth commercial goes fast. Looking at how it goes nearly 1 million dollars is pretty fantastic without kickstarter.

 

Nothing will help the game spread more than beta starting. Having people playing and enjoying the game will cause them to tell their friends to buy it so they can play together.
I just hope they dont hold off too long and lose out on custom

 

Its not kickstarter officially but at the same time it kinda is. the game is already "backed" and there are tiered donation amounts with varying rewards as you go up.
the stretch goals are a nice change though

 

Advertisement for an indie game? When have you ever seen Minecraft wasting its money on TV advertisements, or Project Zomboid being in cinemas.

 

Word of mouth is best marketing.

 

Over in Australia, you don't even see any video games advertised on the television by itself.

 

Actually, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite and such is advertised.

 

Really? I swear I haven't seen any games advertised on the television. Unless I have been living under a rock for the past few years.

 

Yeah, it is kind of rare, but happens.

 

No but as you can see it works perfect works kinda like kickstarter but now they can work full time so all is good now and people wanted this game since it was announced. Glad i pre ordered it since these kinda games give me more satisfaction then a huge budget game these days.

 

Well I am sure when it is more complete it will get marketing. Also total biscuit will be getting a preview copy soon. So a WTF will probably be out sooner or later which is a good way to market to the pc gaming crowd.

 

Hopefully Jess Cox will get it also and off course there Terraria video's are pretty populair so with Starbound it can be hilarious.

 

The preorders right now are simply paying the devs for their work. when the game is out, that's when starbound will get extra money, then they can advertise a full game
