Outdated Mantis Race 0.6.7 [Spirited Giraffe]

So I want to list my server as using your mod but am timid about trouble makers/mashugana‎s and thereby don't know how I feel about broadcasting my ip .-. I have a very small server at the moment and am not sure what public exposure would do to us

I've got a idea for the undy color thing. how about eye shape or color?

 

That's at least two people who've requested eye color now so I'll make that a priority. It should be in the next update!

 

Hey there. I'm really enjoying your mod, so far as the mantis themselves go but uh... either the villagers are all just getting squished instantly or they aren't spawning at the excavation sites. I see a LOT of said sites, more than any other dungeon right now, but ne'er a friendly mantis in sight. Just thought I should check up on this.

 

Thanks for letting me know. I definitely set them to spawn, but it's entirely possible that they might all be getting killed. They don't have any guards to protect them and they don't have a house to run into. On the other hand, I may have screwed up the village NPC file with this release since I edited that a bit before releasing. Thanks for bringing it to my attention I'll look into a way to fix it.

Also are you ONLY seeing mantis dig sites? Or are they just oddly frequent?

 

I occasionally see other terrain features like that random Avian house but I think they're the only dungeon I see. The override is commented out though. It's weird.

 

Yea that is weird. I've tested it just recently and I haven't seen one of my dungeons at all yet, but I have found some Glitch forts and Apex facilities. Are you using it in conjunction with another mod that might be interfering or something? That's the only thing I can think of.

On a site note I probably should add the digsites to the random house generation, not dungeon, at least until I make the excavation site a full size Indiana Jones-style tomb with snake-pits, etc.

 

Ah that makes sense actually. Also you may wanna set up a tent or two. Give the poor guys somewhere to sleep.

Yea all this stuff is in development, I'm definitely not satisfied with the current dig sites, they're going to be totally revamped once I get weapons/some-basic-armor so I can make guards, etc. They're going to have unique things to say, there's going to be excavator specific npc's with custom dialogue, there's going to be tents near the sites, houses, underground temples (Indiana Jones TEMPLE OF DOOM), and if all goes well, giant rolling boulders...of doom. But yea housing has got to be a priority for them so they don't die. I just finished up to tier 10 spears and I'm going to be working hard on the weapons for this next update.

The eye color slider is coming in the next update as well. I really want it to be eye style and color, not just color, but everything I make comes out looking wrong. If you guys want to try and think of alternate eye-shapes/colors please try your hand at it and post it below. I'll give you credit in the next update if I end up using it!

You can also design hair styles, and they don't have to be antennae--some mantis species don't have antennae. It can also be a mix of headshape/antennae. I'll consider everything you guys send, and if you think what you have isn't good enough send it anyway because I can always tweak it to fit better.

 

Alternative as a placeholder why not just steal that tent-and-box campground feature and slap it next to them, just for the moment?

 

Yea sure, i'll spiff it up a bit in the next update at least. Also I have the shortsword revamped, it looks SO MUCH BETTER but I'm keeping it a surprise MUAHAHA

 

Getting an error that has to do with villager.npctype within the folder npcs... I remove this mod and it works again, says error in line 97:283 that something should be a "... tried fixing it myself but no go.

AssetException: Could not read variant asset /npcs/villager.npctype
caused by: JsonParsingException: Cannot parse json file: /npcs/villager.npctype
caused by: JsonParsingException: Error parsing json: bad string, should be '"' at 97:283

 

Thank you so much for letting me know. I thought there might've been a problem with that file, that's why the villagers weren't spawning. I'll make a quick hotfix right after I get off work at 10:00pm EST.

Nice! The more populated the universe, the better. Just a quick check, it's still set as a dungeon not a single abode correct?

 

For now yea, I just did a quick fix to make sure it didn't crash.
