Bug/Issue Making Multiple Saves

Hi, I'm not sure if this is a common problem or not, but when I look up how to make a duplicate of a save I just get the simple copy and pasting your character's save folder (in the appdata folder, mine is Malcolm_some numbers). It shows up in the load menu when you start up the game, but when you try and load it the game crashes. I am not sure how to fix that.
