Okay, i'm actually pretty surprised how unloved the morphball tech is. - Massive energy drainage (65 energy per second!) for such tiny benefit (halfing player height). - zero mobility due to laughable jumpheight and no movement speed increase - zero combat viability because attacks (even removed bombs) and little defensive benefit (reduced hitbox, no armor or dodge) I have also rarely seen things where one can apply Morphball for navigating, this could be adressed for future dungeon generating, adding "morphball pipes" for extra loot rooms etc. Here's how i'd like to see the Morphball being made usable: Transforming into a Morphball costs a small amount of energy, staying in Morphball mode does not (may stop regeneration for the time being though). Boostball: Synergy with energydash. Velocity isn't lost as fast when energy dash is used in morphball mode (also needs fitting dash sprites). Bombs: Reimplemented, uses significant amount of energy. Spiderball: Holding down rightclick makes the Morphball stick to the surface, being able to climb walls up and down and even move along ceilings at significant energy cost. Being hit (enemy projectile/morhpbomb) deactivates Spiderball temporarily. Also the ability to pop out of Morphball any time (ie. midair or slopes) instead of only on suitable surfaces (empty 8x2 with flat ground below), as that sometimes makes you stuck on slopes.
While I agree that it'd be nice to have more uses for the morphball, it's not exactly useless in its present state. In addition to being able to get in some tight spaces in caves, I use it to roll down hills at breakneck speeds. Also, there are already secrets in missions that require the morphball. What you do is [SPOILERS].
That was an exaggeration, but even for non-minmaxing purpose, say "roleplay" it's not really a Tech that gets much use compared to others like the BounceBubble. Especially considering the heavy Energy usage and the danger of being stuck in a tight space because the energy pool went empty. That i did too until i noticed you still get falldamage even in ball form. Which i absolutely endorse and hope there's going to be rooms added to other, randomly generated dungeon tilesets
I would LOVE it if the energy cost of morphballs was reduced/made a one time on use instead of a constant drain. One use of the morphball that I've come to enjoy is to cut shortcutting horizontal mining. Rather than digging out a 4 block tall tunnel I dig out a 2 or 3 block tall tunnel (depending on the upgrade status of my matter manipulator) with periodic 4 block tall sections when I can't reach any further. Then I just roll on through. It saves slight bit of time while digging but mostly it's just fun to roll through tunnels. I've actually taken to adding morphball sized "ventilation shafts" in some of my underground bases just for the heck of it.
