So, I don't know how feasible an idea this is BUT... Since all your single player characters occupy the same universe I'll often make them all share a home planet. It would be pretty interesting (I think) if when logged in as one of your characters, all your other characters where NPCs that walked/stood around where you logged off as them the last time you played. What they are able to do is a function of how hard it would be to make them do those things but at a the very least they would make your home planet seem more alive and less abandoned. Some ideas on things that might be interesting for them to be able to do Act as a merchant to "Sell" any item in their inventory. Allow the player to set phrases up for them (maybe even active player sensitive phrases?) Could it be extended to multi-player servers? I realize it may not even be possible (I'm a software developer so I generally only like to make suggestions I can visualize the implementation of, but i don't know how this would work of the top of my head) but it would def be interesting.
I dunno. Whatever happens, I hope that I never run into my human character Nasaneru. I would be tempted to buy all his stuff!
very few games lets you break the 4th wall in this way, if one could play through skyrim/fallout and replay from the perspective of another character, it would blow everyone's mind. Game 1: Play as character X who achieves ending 1. Character X becomes the boss of the current world and adds his 'custom story' into the game world. Game 2: Play as character Y and interact with character X, you can now get a ending where you offer your allegiance to X or refuse and fight his army! Game 3: Takes place after the choices of game 2, rebellion occurs, if Y joined the X's side, he becomes a mid-boss you have to kill when playing Character Z, and your final true boss is character X. Choices may become more linear as it reaches the endpoint of a 'universe'. The reason why game developers don't do this? Because they can sell you sequels!
I totally agree with doing this. But maybe not just merchants? Maybe you can use a special spawner with a gui that lets you pick what character and job type (doctor, guard, merchant, etc) And when they die they drop the spawner. Also if the character is in use already it wont be able to be selected until it dies. Also another idea would be for it to be a companion. Something to the lines of it following you around and helping you fight (like a pet).
Interesting, but is it murder or suicide if you kill one of your other characters ? And what if they're on permadeath?
I like this idea. But I also think it would be a slight problem. Xentonic's idea would fix that problem. It would also be fun if, say, my human Nasaneru and my brother's floran Ikkabu met up, and this was when my brother was playing, when I went back to play Nasaneru, Ikkabu would be following me around!
I have the same idea. I have a character for each race and I think it would be amazing to jump on my main human character, get all of em together, and go kick some major alien butt. AND IT WOULD BE GLORIOUS!
Well a news article said Tiy is planning some sort of director mode where you can go dungeon master on a server and manipulate anything... Like dungeons and dragons where you are the narrator. Anyways... Imagine manipulating other characters to tell a story, and spawn enemies to make gameplay different. For instance you create a space princess being chased by evil space pig event and have em cross path with players.
That would be an absolutely sick game that I would play until the very end of time and space itself. A game that becomes a different game with a different story depending on how you play it and just continues into infinity with infinite branching paths and endings and stories and characters and new experiences and fun. Seems like something an indie company would make instead of a triple A corporation.
There is actual dungeons and dragon game but its played old school with turn based graphical application as a silly excuse for a game... So putting a DND mode into a existing game and system is better. StarCraft 1 had DND maps where 1 player Spawns units.
maybe they should have a camp set up or be hanging in an NPC town? yknow so its not like HEY IM STANDING A DESERT WITHOUT SUPPLIES LOGIC
