Make creatures break blocks.

We've all done this: be a little naughty and warp to a high level planet, snatch the strongest weapon you can find and go out hunting for ores/chests. The only problem is that those damn powerful mobs (all weirdly sounding like horses or sheep) can kill you in one hit. But I know you've got a trick up your sleeve. Quickly equip a worthless block of your choice and encase the said beast into a handy prison. Continue by beating it through the wall and voila: You're now king of the planet and can proceed with your hunt for ores.

Even though I have done this and enjoyed beating a helpless monster so I can progress faster, it's not right. You should only be able to beat monsters of a high level once you've put the effort needed to find/craft armor and weapons needed to defeat them. That's why I suggest that all monsters can break blocks.

How would this work? We've seen that the UFO could break blocks, but that's not quite what we want. We don't want mobs to scar the landscape at all times. Maybe mobs can only break player-placed blocks? But that once again put us in front of a different problem: Our carefully built houses would be demolished once a monster has its eye on it. This is a problem I do not know the solution to, I'll leave it to the devs and possibly the brainpower of other players.

But my point is clear: Having monsters break blocks ensures that players are only able to defeat mobs by putting in effort and have the skills to avoid a rampage of doom whenever they swing at you.

    Thank you for your interest.

Or there is always the "Will not end with the destruction of your house" idea, that is to make non-physical attacks pass through walls... And maybe once in a blue moon generate a creatures that uses something other than body slam.

    Fully agree.

    For the trigger...

-player proximity (but could ruin level design, maybe only underground?)
-when attacked? (so we could still trap monsters but killing high level monsters with low level stuff would be harder / impossible)

Monsters starting to break blocks for a limited time when attacked / damaged by a player could prevent house destruction and high level monster killing with dry sand and a lvl3 sword.

It could be a skill for some monsters (underground diggers, ramming charge and so on) so some monsters could be trapped but some couldn't.

The game has a fully deformable world. I say let's take the most out of it.
