Major forum changes

Something to help differentiate those who have been here for a very long time and those who just joined yesterday (the forum titles aren't noticed very often).

 

Has anyone mentioned a dislike button? I want a dislike button.

 

That can often be abused. I'd rather someone tell me why they dislike my comment rather than simply disliking it and leaving.

 

How about lets focus on fixing those "game breaking bugs" then you can focus on silly forums that nobody will use once the Beta is released.
Not trying to be mean but lets be honest... we dont want another distraction to take our mind's off the beta. We want the Beta.

 

Abused in what way?

 

Same way Reddit's downvotes could be abused. Though, this is a smaller and less hectic community.

 

*pinches nose* I don't like your tone. I'm going to dislike your comment, then go to your page and dislike every comment you ever made. All my pals will get in on it, so no one can pin it on us. MWEHEHE.

Something like that. A dislike button creates a barrier between us, one of hatred and envy. If we can simply plop a stinker on your lap without letting you face the accuser, who could resist? Well, the potential is there anyways, and that's usually concerning.

 

Somebody said that "dislike button kills creativity and stops all attempts to create something really good."
Dislike button will make this forum veeeeeery silent.

 

Better mobile support. The forum is terribly laggy on mobile.

 

Why does that even matter...

 

It's a badge of honor. My dissertation on why Tiy is a hack and full of shit has way more clout if you can see I've been here since Feb. 22, 2012. Or something. But that dissertation wouldn't have very much, honor or not.

 

That's assuming that this system would hide or otherwise decrease the visibility of down-voted posts. If dislikes don't do anything there is nothing to abuse.

Simple: Don't track them. Don't make them do much of anything. People will still care regardless, and if implemented correctly they'll care enough to not carelessly make stupid or rude posts. I don't think hatred and envy are anything new to these forums.

 

I'm against the community picking people from the community to moderate. It seems like a very bad idea to base your moderation policies around a popularity contest and a recipe for disaster no matter who wins. You'll be essentially dividing your forums into factions, even worse than it is now with the factions that already exist.

I'm also against you asking people to nominate themselves as being good at self promotion does not make them good at moderation. By now the team should have their own ideas for who would be a good moderator and would be a good member on staff and they should be able to do this without our input.

 

The hatred and envy thing was just hippy filler. Anyways, are you saying that downvotes should be for the mod's eyes only, in order to seek and destroy troublemaking posts? That's... actually an OK idea. Still has potential for abuse, but not as much as visible ones.

That's not what I had in mind, but that's an interesting spin on it. We already have a report feature though, so using it to remove posts is a bit redundant. Perhaps if a person consistently receives downvotes on their posts, they could face consequences (under moderator review, or else the abuse thing actually becomes a factor). That may help cull the people who continually act aggressive towards others. It could certainly make this forum a bit more polite.

 

Like Merc said, its a badge of honor really, nothing to important. I've been here since day 1 (207th person to sign up), and I'm starting to feel smaller and smaller as the days go by on this forum. Theres been a few, only a few, cases where people who are completely new to this forum (and I mean they have 1 message posted), start to go on about all these things that have been addressed a long time prior, and then start to go off on me, claiming that my say doesn't mean much of anything, even though it probably should to some degree as I've been here for some of the longest time (meaning I've seen a lot of the events that happened here). But yea, not much more than a badge of honor really. Of course though, those who would go off on me and make rather ridiculous claims I tend to close off from my mind...
You know what, more badges would be nice instead.

 

I haven't played it for a while either, I got distracted by Planetside 2. Need to go play it again sometime though, is a fun game. Obviously very work-in-progress, but fun.

I actually do need to manage my time better, but it's not because of this. That was mostly a joke, though that doesn't translate well to text, I understand that. This is in no way comparable to a tv channel. The reason it annoys me is because there are threads like those all the time, and it's not the mods fault, but people always repost them. Of course an actual complaint board wouldn't be good. I just like the idea of not having to hear whining about entitlement. In reality, people actually have no rights, or entitlement, to anything. Watch George Carlin he'll show you. That guy was a genius.
