Cute ideas, but since you can never become immune to magma or poison, and you can't mine on them without going to the bottom of the sea, they're absolutely pointless.

You saw useless, we say infinitely reliable sources of poison or magma. Don't ask why i have uses for either/both.

Don't forget you can still boat on Poison and Magma.

...since when are there boats?! o_O I am so out of the loop with this game...

Boats are a head tech that's unlockable after the Floran Party mission, IIRC.

As a test on a magma ocean planet I just used some dirt to tunnel through the magma and I'm now under the ocean mining.

Before the Floran Party ;) (still need to do this quest)
It becomes available with the first upgrade of your ship (after that dread pinguin)
License cost 2 diamond and 20 durasteel when activating with S.A.I.L.
The second upgrade license (4 diamonds) I can buy already too. The extra costs for S.A.I.L. I don't know yet (didn't have any diamonds on me at that time)

Theres plenty of plant life and chests and stuff on the normal ocean floor. But if you mean things like wrecked ships and underwater bases (and hyotl cities/settlements) then not yet.

Antidote gives you poison immunity. And it lasts enough time, so you can reach the bottom.

The Antidote works fine for Poison Oceans, but Magma on the other hand.

I'd like to see a Submarine Tech for Ocean Exploration (and in theory could be immune to Poison/Magma). Of course, some Hylotl Biomes and such to find with said submarine would also be nice.

Magma planets are actually better for mining than their volcanic cousins, Digging through magmarock is so time costing that it's faster to just build a tube of dirt down to the bottom of a magma ocean and hollow it out to get to all them delicious ores.

Magma/poison ocean planets are also pretty reliable sources of certain crops (chili, toxic tops) and crafting items (toxic waste).

For poison oceans, just use the Shield tech. It'll block all the damage from the poison long enough for you to refresh the shield again.

But don't even think about trying this with Magma oceans. You've been warned.

I think both these worlds would also be better served should CF start making biome-specific dungeons and installations. I'd love to see a Mustafar-like processing plant on a magma ocean world.

  18. Kastor

    Kastor Void-Bound Voyager

I agree, biome specific dungeons and microdungeons would make otherwise tedious planets a worthwhile venture.

I think I'd like to try making a base at the bottom of a magma ocean. depends if I can find one without asteroids because those would really mess up thetop of the access shafts. They should definitely add Hylotl villages to regular ocean beds! :D And how about a titanic style sunken ship mini dungeon for ice ocean world seabed?

Althrough it tends to be easier to just go to a Schorched planet, which has easily-mined sand.
