Wouldn't magic or something similar would be cool like a freezing power or weapon that could freeze an enemy in place or a flamethrower glove.
No. There is no magic in Starbound. It's science fiction, so they could probably use technology to do similar things.
Do you know that for a fact? Unless you are one of the devs, I don't think you have the knowledge to state that as fact. With science, there are limitless possibilities and potential to discover all kinds of things. Perhaps a device would be invented that helps in the discovery of a new dimension that does in fact, have magic. Maybe a race in the universe stumbles onto, and proceeds down, the road of magic before science. An energy could be discovered that allows the manipulation of the elements through the mind when one learns how to use the energy. There are many possibilities. Even ones that could be explained through science. I do not know if it would then become science instead of magic. I think that the more options the better. As long as they are implemented well. Magic could very well enhance the game a great deal if done properly.
You know what? I do actually know that as a fact. The devs have already mentioned on several occasions that "magic" will not be in the game. Many people on the forum are aware of this, so don't you start accusing me of "not having the knowledge". I wouldn't say something like that if I wasn't sure it was true.
No need to be aggressive. My post was not intended to sound so. If it came off that way then that is unfortunate. I apologize.
In my honest opinion, Magic would drift the attention away from what the game is and where the game is set: Sci Fi and Space, respectively. I'm glad there's no magic.
This is an amazing concept! I too think that there are unlimited possiblilities in the universe, and along with that, it would add a whole new area of depth to the game! Maybe to keep it more Starbound-like, maybe "magic" could be called "mystic." For instance, you may find a mystic ore that connects through another universe with seperate laws of physics. With this ore, you may create robes, armor, weapons, or any other object. Also, this ore would do different things depending on what type of mystic ore it is.
Yeah, I'm just as much to blame. Completely took your post the wrong way. Sorry about that. To help bury the proverbial hatchet, here's a cookie and a hug.
No innuendo. My houses kitchen is just really nice. And the oven was custom made so it could fit peopl....ummmm...fit entire animals inside. It allows me to throw feasts quite easily. No worries about me pushing you in and cooking you. OwO
While I would love to be able to throw fireballs or teleport like Corvo from Dishonored, I don't really think it would fit in with the setting. I mean who wouldn't want to freeze water or fly!
Technology advanced to the point of being incapable of comprehension will be indistinguishable from magic.
the thing is that technology kinda replaces magic like in teleportation there is tekeporters and fireballs there is flamethrowers and other things so everyone wanting magic don't worry there will probably be a technology replacement
well well yes but again this is starbound i myself am a wizardy guy but still i think magic doesnt fit into Starbound that is a game for space and technology. as settin ppl to fire always there is the good old flamethrower
Tech chips hmm i like your way of thinking like you would have some chip that allows you to have DARTH VADER POWARSSSS Also for glitches this would be easier becouse theyre already robots so brain chips would be easier to install/obtain
I'd like to have magic. Like Terraria, that worked great. Currently there's normal weaponry, like swords and throwables, and there's advanced 'science-based' weaponry like guns and tesla coils. Adding magic to that list adds a whole other dimension to weaponry. It adds so much variety, that it is worth it for the little work it takes. I don't see why it would hurt anything. People who don't like it doesn't have to use it. The devs can balance it well, and it won't be too OP. they can add a complex mana-system, so that it is not just "This spell uses x mana". Starbound doesn't take place in our world, so their laws of physics could be different, allowing for magic. (See quote below) I know the devs have confirmed that it will not be there, I just hope they change their minds.
