Magic mimicking technology

As has been posted throughout the forums at random areas, I do feel that magic is a real appeal to the majority of gamers. Given that this game is a sci-fi type of game, I can see why the devs would be against this. However explainable magic should be allowed. Things that pretty much do exactly as magic would do, but in the form of some sort of item/gear.

Cryo-tube - Toss a bottle, sort of like Super Ghouls and Ghosts, like the blue bottle, but essentially you toss it in an arc, and when it lands, it shoots spikes up in a line from where it lands made of ice, maybe like 7-8 peaks.

Maybe like, a shield of spiked ice. Craft any armor with a cryo-tube and it creates a new armor that has the same stats + damage return to enemies for a certain amount of time, then it'll "melt" and you'll just have your regular armor back.

Same with gauntlets, creates like 2 ice swords on your arm, you turn into like a berserker. Can maybe create whatever item you want out of ice on just your gauntlets. And if you increase your "Alchemy" stat or something, you create better ice weapons from gauntlets. Essentially you craft your gauntlets with a Cryo-tube, you choose what type of weapon you craft (ice mace, ice bow, ice sword, ice whip) And it's stronger depending on your stat. I dunno, ice seems to be the frontier that is hard to mimic as magic, I figure I'd throw out a few suggestions.

However, just in general, explainable magic should be in this game. Magic lures players.

Hhmm, colored tracer bullets. Easy to make in-game, easy to customize to your liking...rainbow bullet streams! Blue, Red, Yellow, WHATEVER YOU WANT!

Cool, glad I have some supporters. Maybe if enough people support this it can be noticed and possibly implemented. Lets do this!

I'm all for the "magic" in the game, but nothing like the spells in Terraria. I think your ideas would fit in the game, there seems to be nothing against Technological Magic!

    NyanCat projectiles! Lol!

No, seriously, some sort of technomagic would be really cool to see added to the game. Maybe make it expendable, like different chemical potions acting as "grenades" and creating different effects, or of course buffs.

Well, wouldn't "technomagic" just be science? Just saying.

    W/e, Support!

Well, yes, but it would create magical-like effects, rather than just simple explosions. GearSecond already offered a couple of examples ^^

Mwahahaha. Let my gentle fist guide the progression of this design. May my words fill the hearts and minds of this esteemed populace and, unto the will of they who control, have this idea come to fruition! My words! Let them be the catalyst!

but no seriously, I'm glad I have so much support lol (also, was my mini speech impressive? Was it?!?!)

Well, Battery Power was already confirmed to be like Mana. I'd consider that close enough to Magic.

There could be alterations to magical things, that make them more realistic. For example, Thor's hammer, Mjolnir, could be made into a giant warhammer with powerful taser-like abilities, instead of summoning lightning and thunder down from the sky.

To any primitive mind all technology is magic. Radio waves were considered witchcraft. Hell even alchemy, the father to chemistry, was considered heathen and those who practice alchemy were branded heretics and killed back in the day. I don't think 'technomagic' needs to be implemented because what is magic in the imagination in the past becomes technology tomorrow.

Exactly t bone, what I'm proposing is that futuristic weapons be implemented, and to people like us who don't live in the same time frame as the star bounders, it would appear to be magic. Obviously the game takes place father in the future than us, so it doesn't make sense that they would only use weapons we can easily explain. Needs more future tech. And future tech might resemble what we would call magic.

I thought it would be cool to make gauntlets that use battery power (the green bar under the health bar seen in screenshots and the lighting demo) and could use magic just like magic in normal RPGs

I like the idea a lot, its super cool. (Puns are funs :3)
and although it's scaled down massively it sounds similar too that thing that happens in The Witcher 2 where the guy throughs the little tube full of blue liquid and freezes a boat for some reason.
    Dunno, haven't played the game.
But that's the only similarity, I also like the idea of being to infuse the Cryo-Tube into Gauntlets to be able to create ice weapons or to go a bit further into armor to create say Ice Wings (would be awesome)
I always try to use ice or electricity based moves in stuff, cause they are my favourite elemental things.
I also undertand that explainable magic is more likely to be put into the game rather than magic magic but there are legitemate arguments that can allow implementation of unexplainable magic into sci-fi games. I have made my argument on the forums already

Also, if anyones wondering what I'm talking about with The Witcher go to youtube here

(about a minute in is the bit with the boat, can't find the long scene with it in)

Well since a character in one of the Starbound screenshots/animations is holding a wooden shield and a fairly low-tech sword: http://playstarbound.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/shield-4.gif, it wouldn't be a surprise that "magic" items like staffs, tomes, and the like aren't already in the game. After all, it seems that each planet greatly varies in technology, one creature variation of the dinosaur even holding a wooden spear http://playstarbound.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/lizards.png, so integration would probably be pretty seamless. And as for how they are found or made, treasure chests holding some of these objects would seem like a plausable source, or even use of some crystals from crystal worlds or some basic objects for crafting would probably work as well!

We just need scientists to invent magic in starbound for it!
    Science magic!
    Alchemy anybody?

See, alchemy is also another plausible way to go for all of this.
