I think it would be cool to have machine worlds in the game. For example, the entire planet including the foliage is mechanised. You could have a really dark background with flying robots slowly moving across, im thinking something remeniscent of Scrap Brain zone or earth from the matrix series. I'm thinking that there could be robotic versions of creatures you can find on other planets, that are maybe more durable and are weak to different elements. The whole idea could be that the planet was an ancient races experiment to create an ecosystem, which would explain why they used animals that already exist to base the life on. Maybe if you went underground the core of the planet would be a large metal heart or a waste disposal burner, or maybe a robot factory to produce more animals and plantlife!
I have pretty much the same idea. http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/cybernetic-junk-planets.23803/ You also bring up some pretty good points for a machine planet though. (mine ended up leaning towards like scrap planets)
Look at my suggestion please, its kinda joining this topic, this machine worlds can be part of it too! It could be awesome! http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/build-your-planet-or-spaceship.24860/
A machine world? I like it! One thing though; maybe worlds that resemble Sonic CD's good futures could be added, where the natural life and machine life have symbiotic relationships.
I like that idea! I'd enjoy seeing a variety of machine worlds, it would be interesting to see different palettes get used.
Sure, why not! I'm going to assume you mean a planet inhabited with robots, not an entire artificial planet like the one in Spiral Knights. It would be interesting to see a Glitch civilization on such a planet. :L
... The Glitch WERE part of an experiment to see how societies evolved... and I imagine a planet full of mechanical humanoids and everything else being organic life would corrupt the experiment results... Ladies and Gentlemen, I think we just stumbled upon a lore-friendly justification for these machine worlds being in the game. And a reason for there to be Glitch-related artifacts on these worlds. EDIT: There's a metal tree in the biome diversity trailer at 1:24! While it seems to be on some kind of ice planet, the tree's clearly made of metal plates that have been riveted or welded together. I hope that means this Ice World is a machine world under all the ice and snow. EDIT: There's another metal tree on the desert/lava planet at 1: 27, the first biome in the video has metal trees, the biomes at 05 and 09 have them, they're all over the place at 1:14,and there little tech-looking bits on the ground in biomes throughout the trailer. While none of it exactly screams "MACHINE WORLD YEAHHHHHHH!!!!!," it does look somewhat promising.
Weren't the Glitch intentionally placed on planets where they could mingle with races of sentient life? If I recall there was some fluff about how they were supposed to help said races advance. However, it's true that a machine planet could be a similar experiment anyhow, possibly even by the same thing that made the glitch. It's an interesting idea..... I just wanna see if the creatures have a weakness to water, magnets or a strong electric shock (No, a jolt of power probably wouldn't help the robot you were fighting).
That would be cool and those planets would host the hack race villages or dungeons. This would probably be the planet I'd make home
I could see a planet like this having a really cyberpunk "village" full of npcs trying to mind their own business, really tall buildings, and an underbelly to the city full of merchants selling illicit goods.
