Mac OSX Wineskin Attempts?

I have everything running, but as soon as I open the game I have an error popup, that I can't dismiss (my click are not registered) and I can't click inside the game either (can't star a new game or anything) but the "hover" actions are taken into account (the buttons grow when I hover).

Any ideas ?

EDIT : actually it seems to work fine in fullscreen, but the second I switch to windowed I have the error I'm talking about =/

Thanks for the reports @addik and @mdcarter!

@mdcarter are you using an AMD graphics card as well?

I made the wrapper with minimal winetricks'd libraries, so we may need to load up some more stuff to get it to work. However, let's try the easiest, non-winetricks thing first:

Right-click the wrapper and click on Show Package Contents

Double-click on Wineskin and then click on Set Screen Options

Uncheck the Use Mac Driver instead of X11 option and then press Done

Hit Test Run in the next screen and see if that works for you

If you're still getting the error, exit Steam and it should give you the option to view logs. Click that and send those to me!

Thanks for your work on this wrapper DandoCalrissian. I tried it, and am still getting the same graphics card error message. On my system, the game doesn't even start to load from steam. Just pops up the error.

haxd - I followed your instructions several times, and am also still getting the graphics error. I am probably making an error somewhere, or not modifying the directx file correctly. I eagerly await your progress on a wrapper.

Since there are starting to be questions about OS version and graphics cards, I will add that I am having difficulty on a mid 2015 macbook pro retina (has the AMD dgpu), and I am lazily still running Yosemite.

Do you think there's a way to 'spoof' it to a higher resolution? The game is very zoomed in for me and I cannot change resolution beyond 1280x800. I've tried fiddling with the wineskin screen options but the game seems to override whatever I set.

I'm glad it's working for you, @huecester! I have no idea if that's a possibility. My experience with changing resolution in Wineskin is that it might work for one wrapper, and not the next. Just keep fiddling around with the Set Screen Options and see if something will stick! I'll see if I can do some testing on that later as well.

And thank you for writing those instructions up! I'm so happy that it works for GOG as-is for most people. I'm going to upload a version without Steam in a little bit to make that process easier for GOG users and put a slightly modified version of your instructions on the post, if that's ok with you.

Allright I have more precision on the issue, I have two screens and apparently the change of screen (ie moving the window) is triggering the issue.

I don't have an amd gpu no, I have the Inter Iris chipset.

I spent most of the day chasing missing libraries and cursing Xcode trying to get the engine to compile for Wineskin. Not fun. A lot of it has to do with Xcode getting rid of old OS SDKs and just miscellaneous things like it not liking gcc-4.2 or clang and throwing random xml errors. I'm still running Yosemite, but I think it just has to do with newer versions of Xcode.

The patch is definitely in the wrapper (the wrapper works for me!), but there must be another check somewhere in directx.h.

The official Known Issues thread gives these solutions:

But neither of those worked for me. You're probably missing drivers - when you used the GUI version of winetricks, they may not have actually installed. You should install them manually with

Right-click the wrapper and click Show Package Contents

Click Advanced and then Tools at the top of the next window

Now click on Winetricks

In the DLLs section, put a check next to all of these (probably overkill, but we are doing it all for completeness):

Deal with your Mac complaining at you about Unknown Developer claims (see the Some Notes! bullet below)

Sign into your Steam account and go through and verification necessary.

Download Stardew Valley

Run Stardew Valley

Click through any errors or install prompts that pop up. There is one regarding a Directx library not being found and then a brief install of xna, but then it should be smooth sailing after that.

Play the game! Love the game! Spend "too many" hours playing the game!

(Optional) Give Dando (me!) a high-five!

Some Notes!

Your Mac is probably going to complain about the file being from an unknown developer (unless you have disabled said complaining). You can get around this by going to System Prefereces > Security & Privacy and either clicking the Open Anyway button if you just tried to open the file, or you can click the lock in the bottom-left and set the 'Allow apps downloaded from' option to Anywhere, open the app, and then set it back after it's all up and running. Either way should work fine and really you should probably be used to the message if you've been using a mac for more than a day or two.

Steam is pre-installed as I wanted to make this thing as streamlined as possible. If you don't trust it, let me know and I will throw a wrapper without Steam up on there or you can uninstall Steam and reinstall it as you see fit

I will do my best to help accommodate anyone who is having troubles, but I do have a day job and can't be lurking the forums 24/7 (as much as I would like to).

Lastly: I cannot be held responsible for any damage that comes from using this wrapper! This is just a disclaimer to cover myself in the event that the wrapper makes your computer catch fire, throw your cat, spills coffee in your lap, etc. More than likely nothing will happen other than being able to play an awesome game on your Mac
