Just make sure that the folders are empty!

Go to Library/ApplicationSupport/Steam/SteamApps/common/ and delete the entire star bound folder, then in steam hit delete local content and reinstall, that is how I fixed this problem.

i can confirm that doing what melillo said works. loaded perfectly, even without verifying the game chache.

I'm curious as to what operating system on the mac that people are using?
I'm having the instant-crash on launch. I run OSX 10.7.5 (Lion).
From what I've been noticing, it seems that it has a lot to do with whatever your currently running. It sounds that overall, it runs on Mountain Lion and Mavericks. I'm not familiar with Mavericks at all though.

on 10.6.8 it doesn't even start, on maverick it runs quite good

there is a problem with it running on anything below mountain lion that the devs have been working on. at least as far as i'm aware they have been.

Sounds like the same issue I'm having with 10.7.5
can a person upgrade to Mavericks from Lion? I was under the impression that was a free update for Mountain Lion users.

yes, i did it from snow leopard... btw i don't like maverick at all for a lot of reasons, inform yourself on the web on maverick before doing it,because it's very very bad imho.

To save you chars, backup player files then delete them AND universe folder, launch the game, create a new char and start a game, exit, put your old char files back and launch.

Gotcha. I don't plan on upgrading unless I have to for whatever reason (not talking exclusively about Starbound) because for the most part I've been just fine with Lion. Thanks for the insight!

it may be bad, but it runs a metric ton better than mountain lion. really wish i'd never updated from lion, but oh well. wasn't much i could do about it, since it was required for school related reasons.

    Where is the game directory?

  14. Madzookeeper

    Madzookeeper Void-Bound Voyager

you can access it from steam. right click on starbound in your library, go to properties, click on the local files tab, and click browse local files.

    What Files do i delete?

  16. Madzookeeper

    Madzookeeper Void-Bound Voyager

delete the folders that he said, just deleting the files won't do anything. if you want to keep your player and universe, back them up somewhere, delete the folders, then put them back after the game has loaded (haven't actually tested that, as i'd already decided to start fresh. but it will tell us if that works or not).

I can't find the player and universe folders! I don't think they are there because i have never actually loaded up the game or am i wrong?

Yeah they're not there for me either. I've not been able to load the game at all.

hrrm... try completely deleting the starbound folder and reinstalling it. that is something else i just did (by accident, but still). if you never had those folders, doing that should solve the problem because it'll be completely back to square one.
