Modding Help Lynxarian race

hello,this might be my first ever mod,but there is one problem,i have no coding experience ,i am good at pixel art and all that but when it comes to coding i suck,the tutorials seem outdated and i have no idea how i am supposed to make a mod with the sprites i have ,any help is appreciated ,

also i have a question ,for the race should i use the ship above?or use a recolored hylotl ship i made ?

 

I'd certainly say a new, unique ship will help your mod stand out quite a bit compared to a reskin of a vanilla one.

 

I'd say both ships. just release the mod with the custom ship and release a ship replacer for the repainted ship
