==NOTE: This is not a thread about difficulty or design of the first dungeon.==

I think this is an absolute home run for Starbound and adds a depth to the game that will appeal to a whole other demographic of players. Now, Chucklefish (hope you're hearing this!) keep expanding on it!

I'm sure like most people, I have quite a few friends who aren't the build/explore/entertain themselves type that might lose interest in Starbound rather quickly. These instanced missions fix that entirely. I had a couple watching my Broadcast of the first dungeon who ended up buying the game specifically based on that. These are the same fellas that got Little Big Planet solely to play levels and not build. That's awesome.

The great thing about these dungeons/instances is they can be added infinitely, especially if (and good lord I hope they plan to) they add the ability for players to create their own dungeons and access them via SAIL. Non-destructable instances, puzzles, boss battles, etc. This would work great on the Steam Workshop.

I love exploring and building and creating my own fun, but this added "dungeon mode" gives my friends and I a break from that and allows us to jump into a "level", as well as enjoy it with our friends that don't care about the deeper sandbox aspects.

Don't get me wrong, I like the open world random generated dungeons too, but there's a certain nostalgia and feel that comes with these static, non-destruct missions where you can't just break your way along and wall off mobs, etc. Very classic, and it's awesome!

How I think they could expand this feature:

1: Add dungeon difficulty upon "DEPLOY": Easy, Med, Hard would suffice.
    2: Add checkpoints.
3: Add option when clicking on a party member to "DEPLOY TO THEIR MISSION"
4: Add coordinates that will add missions to SAIL that can be discovered throughout the game via various methods (books, NPCs, treasure maps, etc)
5: Add "Dungeon Editor" mode where players can build their own specific non-destructible instances. Maybe a folder in the game files like the mods folder? We can download other player's missions, stick them in our folder, and they'll appear in our SAIL Missions tab.

    Thoughts anyone?

The instanced dungeons I agree are in a step in the right direction, there's also a ton of modding potential in the API they've introduced.

    1. this is what game difficulty is for. Instanced difficulty would force them to maintain multiple difficulties for each dungeon and isn't a good idea.
    2. yes
    3. I agree, especially if racial instances are added (fighting Kluex, tentaclemonster on earth, Big Ape, etc.)
    4. I don't think instanced dungeons would be the way to go for something like this. Rather use the same API that outposts use to have random dungeons found in space, like hostile space stations, derelict ships and stations, etc.
    5. This is what modding is for, granted, it's not exactly what you want, but it gets the job done.
