Imagine, having a party in your decked out spaceship when you hear a clunk. A long lost weapon has hit your ship. Wouldn't it be cool if you could find random loot and items in space, and then retrieve them with a tractor beam or robotic arm? Loot could include weapons, armor, items you need for crafting, or heck, appendages of a long dead space pilot. Feel free to comment your ideas and further suggestions!

Really like this idea, it adds for a viable and interesting way of attaining new items and even normal items in the game.
Stranded ships, abandoned orbital facilities, or just space junk (as you suggested) randomly generated is such a GREAT IDEA Voting!
