i feel people are judging hype based on nothing really, hype is more then people going around saying they are excited for something, which some people do sure but if you were to go check various forums you'll notice many of them became a lot more active with the announcement of 1.0 about various subjects, this one included it looks like. so i wouldn't say there is a lack of hype, i would say there is a lack of people brown-nosing the game over nothing proven yet, which is a good thing if any, and more people discussing what the game may hold, which is a better use of hype.

I doubt he was trying to save me lol, me and Kevin were at each other's throat when we "met". but it's super sweet of him :nuruflirt:

and I don't think I attempted to redefined a word lol. of course, I have a bias but nonetheless. it's great, you work in the game industry apparently. but you said it yourself, perhaps CF works differently and I promise they do. when they only have 15 people tops, it's going to take a lot of searching and typing to fix the bugs in Starbound. if I'm not mistaken, the main community manager Molly was hired as a programmer before shifting her focus. I think the artists were programmers (i.e. they'd make their art, then animate it, then program it if the main programmers were busy messing with the engine). my memory isn't the best, and it's been a while but I somewhat remember that CF were pretty good at working two sides at once, so to speak. should this be true, it doesn't surprise me that CF considers finding bugs, fixing bugs, and testing the fix is all considered "bug squashing" as they've done so in the past. then, if my memory adds up, it makes sense to pull in every available resource to make this task as painless and quick as possible, however ideal it is.

finally, I don't really think this game needs to be hyped up lol. as I said, those that are hyped are new to the game and its community, and those that are here otherwise have been so invested in this game and its community that they're excited nonetheless. y'know, a good chunk of us pre-ordered the game back in mid-2012 or so. if you expect every single one of us, new and old, to go utterly insane with happiness and excitement then I'd wager you misunderstood that a hype train is not really required when your most loyal fans have always listened.

Lack of hype is no need to worry.

Some people don't get hyped at all for anything. It is all about who each individual is; is what determines whom will get hyped for this or that.

Me personally, I see no point in hype for myself. Excitement does not equal hype. Hype is like a trend, some follow, some lead, some are oblivious, and some just simply see no need of it.

Must be signs of age that I don't get hyped anymore like I use to, but that was so long ago. In the way i see it, it doesn't matter on how many are hyped, but rather whom is expecting a release. At least in this case. Anticipation doesn't need hype, just a clear mind in knowing that it will come. So the lack of hype doesn't bother me; plus I see plenty of hype around here and there. Quite a few have been awaiting this moment. Some more calm than others, as well some that are just simply patiently awaiting.

No worries, the fan base will grow. I mean come on, this game has quite a flexible modding capabilities. And for me it has a lovely base game where I can play it by default. It having the mod flexibility is just a bonus to me. Can say though plenty of things most likely will come in due time. :nuruhappy:

  4. Chill. "White knighting" as you use it can be considered "being a jerk", which is against our forum rules. Take a breath and relax. No need to get angry with peeps.

    ====================================
You don't have to just sift through code to find bugs. You can find them by playing too.

Anyone who plays Starbound while it's in Early Access is technically a bug tester. You play, you find bugs, you (hopefully) report those bugs.

While not traditionally trained to find/fix bugs (maybe they are though, IDK), the CM and Artists can still contribute by playing and reporting any bugs they do find while playing. Which I'm 90% sure they've been doing this week when their other responsibilities don't prevent them from doing so. The programmers would then fix any bugs found in any playthroughs.

Twitter accounts of the dev team are not official CF outlets. They will reflect the personal lives of the devs before they reflect the working lives. That's not to say there's not some overlap there, but those accounts are a very poor place to gauge work ethic/performance/progress.

    ====================================
    As for news and hype.

I haven't seen too much news. A blog post, some news articles. The CF twitter updates.

I have seen a LOT of hype though. My circles are practically foaming at the mouth for the release. I have several friends who have not played Starbound specifically because they wanted to play the release version. I've been watching several CF community platforms now (and a few non CF ones) and the buzz is pretty strong IMO.

Can CF do more for both? Sure. Do they need to? I don't think so.

Does it convey a potential problem? Nah. Trust me; they would have let us know if there was a problem (or at least if there was a problem that affected the launch or community).

Lol, i guess i missed the part where this thread became a dramatic romance movie.

    1. I think it's a long haired male avatar tbh.

2.A pretty effective way to get disrespected is going off-topic that hard with just one post.(without even considering the fact that the content of your off-topic post's ridiculous. "Having a thing for x" .. How old are we again?)
    3. I'm actually trying to save everyone over here before this thread turns into a "first world problems" memefest.
I'm so glad that you're not part of CF right now. They're an amazing team (let's go baby, time for more shiny armor statements) and i'm glad that they possibly even care less than i do about your false accusations. If your job made you a backseat gamer in terms of game developement, then i can only say : Take it easy in the future.
None of us are here to be critics about the game, to judge the dev's marketing moves or anything in that direction. We're here to fool around, get into burning discussions and to share our experiences.

But pulling off such a ridiculous move by creating this thread right before the game's 1.0 release is just.. equal to a failed assassination.

You crossed the line, i'm sorry.

(Any personal offense is unintended. )

uh, to clear things up real quickly, my avatar is of Yui Hirasawa from K-On. totally a girl.

they got you beat on that one, mate.

but seriously, hype may be one thing this game doesn't need because it could be argued that hype almost killed this game in the view of the community way back when. I'm sure some, if not all the mods, could back me up on this one. the hype was real, and when some (i.e. a very loud minority) didn't like what CF put out at the time, bad reviews and slander and verbal abuse came from all sides, to all sides. it was a nasty time for the forums.

LOL, is that what you think he's doing?

Maybe you're just going over the line and he's calling you out on it.

Oi. I didn't see anybody "redefining" anything. Seriously.

But this next part takes the cake, I'd have to say......

So uh, what evidence do we have again, that you have any kind of experience in any major game company that worked on any major game release, again?

We're supposed to just take what you say at face value? Spit it out. What company/game are you saying you worked on? If you're going to claim authority on a subject, you need to cite your source.

And when you say "Little Hype"... and I go to the Dev Blog thread and I see flashing gifs and Hype Train memes and I'm sitting here going "no hype? wut?"

There's plenty of hype. But then again, there's also the fact that a large chunk of 1.0 is already available right now in the Nightly/Unstable Branch and you see a lot of the major Starbound supporters playing THAT. Of course we're not drooling and hyping, we're gladly playing the game with the occasional hiccup and bug.

The people who ARE hyping are the ones who aren't really deep enough into SB that they actually visit the forums and voice their hype. As @Izzabelle said, there's plenty of places out there talking about the coming 1.0 release and lots of "I've been waiting for that!" and "I didn't wanna play while it was in beta, I wanted the full game experience!"

So, what do I have to say about the "little hype"?

Pretty much nothing, because you're imagining a problem that doesn't exist. So, since your imaginary problem doesn't exist, I have nothing to say about it other than how silly it sounds to attempt to create a problem out of thin air and then act like it is real.

And insinuating the CF "messed up" because they don't do things the same way your alleged company does is just LOL.

Your company, or just YOU, a normal player, I wonder?

Anybody can claim to be something. I can sit here and say that I am the King of Blahzistahn, but that doesn't actually mean anything.

I just want to say that I very much doubt this. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the release of Starbound, but I find it highly doubtful they're dropping the community managers and artists into bug catching, lol.

Bug catching can be fun though, as long as you don't torture the little fellas and set em free afterwards.

I mean, it really could go either way. CF has done it in the past. I'm betting that just about everyone was bug fixing. by this point, the majority has been done and they're sleeping (or cramming, either or). but y'know.

  13. The MechE

    The MechE Existential Complex

I'm not concerned either way. Worst cast scenario we have to wait a little longer. Even if we did, this game's original release date was scheduled for 2013, so what's a couple more weeks going to hurt?

So you're saying that people like @mollygos aren't playing Nightly/Unstable and reporting any bugs they find?

I don't know what company you work at, but the company I work at, if I have free time, I am to help out with anything I can within reason. If I am Department A and my Department A duties are done for the day, if I am able to/trained to help out with Department B, then I am to do that.

And then, with playtesting... that can be done in one's free time. If I were, say a Community Manager for Chucklefish, or an Artist or whatever.... maybe when I get home after work, I'll hop on Starbound and see if I can't find any bugs, or just enjoy playing the game and if I find a bug, hey awesome, I'm doing my company a huge favor.

Some people enjoy their jobs, and some people like to help their company out, even by going beyond their stated duties.

Not really... I wasn't talking about the OP's imaginary company, I was talking about Mech's workplace (even if it isn't video gaming).

The concept applies to ALL workplaces: If you're finished with your duties and you've time left and you're not on a "You're done as soon as your work is done" scheduling system, then most likely you are expected to help someone else in your workplace instead of sitting/standing around and doing nothing. Even in a grocery store, if you're a stock person and all of your stocking duties are done, your boss had better not see you standing there doing nothing; you better be up at the registers bagging or something that you can help out with.

EDIT: LAG LAG LAAAAAAG. I hate it when it takes 30+ seconds to post something.

My concern is mostly the news hype... It's really weird that there are no new blog posts after the launch announcement. They kinda said there'd be more info in the coming weeks so I thought there'd be some teaser posts, maybe a major interview... something... did they tell you why they weren't posting?

I've seen some hype from fans, but honestly, I don't think most of the fans waiting for 1.0 know the game is leaving early access. Everyone's into Pokemon Go right now so they could have easily missed the announcement.

:/ I've just been waiting a long time for this game to hit 1.0 and I want to be hyped, but I've pretty much only got the launch announcement and a sinking feeling that there's a reason we haven't been given hype blog posts.

I wear so many hats at my work place it's funny, so I can understand where you're coming from. I still doubt the community managers and artists were all pooled into doing bug fixes though lol. Some might like Molly though, idk. I think you're stretching things a bit there though Xyl Xyl.
