Here is a rather long list of just about every well known ore, gemstone, rock, and mineral, along with alien ones that should be added to starbound and randomly generated in different amounts during in planet formation. bold means recommended, bold and underlined means really recommended. As this List gets updated and is large enough, i will forward it to Tiy through a private email, i have given him some suggestions, this with a bunch of others will be sent to him eventually!! Your idea's are greatly appreciated, and i may add them to this list. I would like to ask a moderator to please pin this thread since it is a good one for rock, gemstone, metal, and mineral references. * common ores and metals - Aluminum (most common metal in earths crust) - Copper (second most common metal) - tin (used with copper to make bronze) - Iron - Silver - Gold - Platinum - palladium - Mercury (liquid at room temperature, toxic as hell) - titanium - Nickel - lead - Uranium (used to make nuclear power and atomic bombs) - Plutonium (More powerful version of uranium, man made) - cobalt (not just from terreria, it really exists) - rhodium (rarest metal on earth) - magnesium (explodes) * common gemstones and crystals - quartz - garnet - amber - opal - pearl - topaz - obsidian - onyx - aquamarine - moonstone - tourmaline - citrine - fluorite - amethyst - beryl (emerald) - corundum (rubies and sapphires) - Diamond * Common Rocks and Minerals - Granite - Basalt - Diorite - Dolomite - Flint - Gabbro - limestone - marble - mudstone - pumice - pyrite (fools gold) - sulfur - rhyolite - schist - sandstone - shale - siltstone - slate - coal - breccia - clay - halite (salt) - asbestos (toxic mineral) - gypsum - graphite - silicon (second most common mineral on earth) - talc - zinc * Alien Rocks, Metals, and Gemstones - unobtainium(fictional metal from avatar, floats in air and makes up most content of floating islands) - tiberium (fictional green and blue crystalline substance from C&C, slowly breaks down and converts everything it touches into itself, entire planets could be found infected with tiberium with crystallized forests where a forest was when a infection spread through it) - Aetherium (very rare fictional blue crystalline substance that produces tremendous amounts of electricity equivalent to nuclear fusion, found near cores of planets) - Limeium (a rare fictional green metal with a value similar to gold) - Magblueiem (a fictional blue magnetic metal similar to magnetite) - Solarnite (a weird fictional metal that glows at night, and stays dark in the day, probably because it stores energy from the sun) - Water rocks (weird rocks that are as heavy as gold in air and become light enough to float when thrown in water) - Shadow quartz (a weird black quartz like crystalline substance that shuns light around it creating a shadow where it is) - Newtons Rock (a weird rock that turns into a liquid in air, but turns into a solid in water) - Cryo Stones (weird rocks that makes a large area around them freeze when set on fire) - Pyro Stones (weird rocks that really heat up the area around them when exposed to cold temperatures) - Webombium (a weird metal found in the deep of planets that explodes when exposed to water, but it won't explode when exposed to lava) - Archridium (about as strong as platinum but slightly radioactive) - Echsarite (a somewhat rare metal about as strong as silver but extremely light) - Marsarite (identical to gold but more valuable) - Rainy Sapphire (a very rare weird blue crystalline rock that can be found only on the surface and causes continuous rain around where it is) - Sunny Ruby (a very rare weird red crystalline rock that can be found only on the surface and causes continuous sunshine and blue skies around where it is) - Snowy quartz (a very rare weird white crystalline rock that can be found only on the surface and causes continuous snowstorms and blizzards around where it is) (Note bringing two or more kinds of weather stones together will cause chaotic weather where the weather will change about every 15 seconds)
these are fictional stones, so they are possible, one is originally from lord of the rings and the other is from world of warcraft
Adamantite existed LONG before warcraft, it was used in greek mythology and some translations of the bible. Aside from that, that is good STARTING point of ores and minerals.
Awesome list! I say, the more, the better! How about Uranium? You could use it to produce A LOT of electricity, but it would be hard to obtain and to use, since its radioactive! You would always have to wear a suit if you're near it, and no NPCs could live in close range of it. Maybe there could be planets, which have plenty of it! There could also be some kind of Geiger counter. Oh god, I'm loosing focus on the topic.
It would be interesting, when your harvesting certain unstable blocks or elements, you could fail and set off an explosion! But if you succeed then you can fuse it with other blocks and ores to make highly deadly weapons
Well, GREAT ideas. I would love to see almost all of those in the game. But there should also be at leats ten times that of alien stuff. Also, I think Unobtanium would be REALLY cool because you could find shattered planets that just have a huge molten core surrounded by floating ripped up islands with unobtanium in them that will just crack into peices and fall into the fire when you mine all the Unobtanium. Adding that to my wishlist.
If I might add to the list I might suggest Hafnium (extremely useful for plasma torches and such) Scandium (alloyed with aluminum it makes some of the strongest and lightest alloys known to man, but rare) Tungsten also might be cool for making lights and drill bits.
Don't forget alloying. but that'd probably be an entirely new idea rather than stuff you'd pluck from the ground in big underground mines. But anyway, approve I do, cause with plenty to mine, plenty to make, theres plenty to do, and that makes plenty of players happy... Or so I think. of course, add too much and it becomes a problem, but you can never have enough of a good thing in games cause it doesn't become detrimental usually... right?
I bet alloy's are already in the game, it would be must easier for the devs to make 2100 shotguns if they could have combinations instead of pure metals. EDIT: GRAMMAR FAIL! alloys.
Actually, aquamarine and emerald are the same mineral, one just has a little more chromium. Just saying.
What about Chromium, Neodymium, Komatiite, Rhyolite, Argonite, Mithril, Promethium, Runite, Kratonite, Pyrite ( Fire Ore) and an elemental energy ore ( Elementium Ore )
