So, either every race has their own type of "respawner" or that's just trolling - the animation doesn't fit into cloning tube.

I hope so - but Avians might have some kind of "hatchery" insted of cloning tube. It was mentioned, that everyy race will have their own ship design - so why not also cloning device?

actually i like it, it gives diversity and, why not? it is a way of cloning, th nowadays cloning is just giving birth to a creature geneticaly modified to be exactly the same as it was as an adult. that avian cloning is the same but with the addition of a high speed growth till adulthood.

Yeah, I mean... I totally see and partly share the point about coherence (as in, humans are re-created but avians have instant growth), and it would bug the hell out of me in many other contests as well because "lol it's a game" or "it's just sci-fi" don't justify incoherence...

However, they chose this for the "visual value" of it (or for the "gag", sort of, because it's a fun idea that they hatch from an egg again being birds and everything) and, with Starbound having the generic sciency setting it has, justifications in one's own mind are still possible with some more suspension of disbelief. Example: their way of cloning is different because they are a different species with different characteristics and genes, what if the eggs are just neutral eggs and the chick that hatches from it is not the actual Avian that it will insta-grow up to be, but instead it's just a base "generic" chick used to rebuild the Avian more easily. You know, maybe they are a simpler species at a genetical level and a base can be used for them? Even if a newborn chick probably has its own genes maybe the cloning machinery replaces them? Why not? It's magic science, and there's already plenty of improbable things, as in any sci-fi fictional work, in Starbound, so I can see this not being too much of a stretch despite how absurd and disregarding genetics it might sound.

So yeah, choose to believe this if incoherence is bugging you or something or sure, come up with your own explanation! Everything's possible!

Or maybe I'm just overtheorizing and it actually is a case of "lol it's just sci-fi" played straight. But still, these things tend to naturally cause the fandom to speculate rationally about them even if they know they shouldn't, it can't be helped, in which case my explanation works even more because I made it up and no canonical one is given, and because if it's useful to heal you from your disbelief you might as well, again, "choose" to believe it, since the Starbound universe/logic allows it from the way I look at it in my opinion.

...sorry for the wall of text?

That's silly.Because I'm sure that if the egg was in some kind of sparkling tech mechanism you wouldn't say that.

    thats true.
how do we know that this isn't simply what happens inside a generic regen machine?
like the humans grow out of their bones.
maybe it was simply released sans the regen machine around it as a gag-reel?

It's really like medieval is just their style. They obviously still have some level of advanced technology. They're robots. They travel the stars.

I suppose I can understand why people don't appreciate the difference in cloning/re-spawning mechanics for coherence sake, but I would say that the differences are justifiable in an alien sci-fi universe. Honestly, if every race had the same technique it would be less believable.

In a universe where there are at least 6 known major races with their own vastly different cultures/religions/technologies, it wouldn't make much sense that their techniques for replicating a dead body would be the same. Their ships will be different, their armor is, their buildings are, so it only makes sense from an in-game perspective that re-spawning would be different. From a design standpoint it makes even more sense, since the developers are trying very hard to infuse each race with a unique style without having to give them racial bonuses or things like that.

I think it's fun to speculate and come up with theories as to why their cloning techniques are what they are. Humans just replicate the body and try to become as close to the original as possible. Avians, with their more religious tone, may see the process as a rebirth (hence the hatching) similar to a phoenix being reborn. Therefore they may have developed a technique to literally and metaphorically make a dead avian "reborn". The end result is the same (re-spawning, inheriting past conscious etc.), but the means to do so varies based on how their culture designed the tech.

While I enjoy the fact this thread gets so many views, and posts. I would like it to stay legit, so If you would like to discuss the cloning thing in more detail, please find an already created one, or start a thread with cloning as the OP subject. Thank you. :]

I haven't noticed if anyone has pointed it out yet, but it's not a UFO if you know what it is. Unless we come up with another clever definition for the acronym. :cautious:

Sigh. Is anyone else feeling this way? I'm trying to stay interested and be active on the forums, but I'm seriously getting bored of it. We get so precious few tidbits of pictures, and info, and it doesn't have to be new... I'm just losing interest. I'll play it when it's out, but I'm wishing that the devs would maybe crank out a few more interesting shots of bases and creatures and stuff...it's not going to spoil anything.

We have been given loads of information, but yes mere discussion can only go so far until you actually have the product. We still haven't seen or heard anything about vehicles/mounts in a long long time.

I disagree. Reading this thread's OP alone -SEVERAL TIMES- has kept my excitement alive. It will never bore me.

Starbound's quality is so powerful that it feels like I'm already playing the game, even though it's solely text ideas not set in stone.
