Hey guys, I just had an idea of leveling up your vehicles and mountable creatures. When you mount a creature or enter a vehicle, you should be able to use some kind of weapon whether it be a weapon that you have in your inventory or a weapon mounted on the mountable. Every time you kill a creature or destroy something while on the mount, you should get some kind of experience points and if you on your mount, the mount would get some xp(experience points) as well. This would lead to you(the player) getting stronger and the vehicle get some kind of xp, eventually leveling it up which will make it more powerful in some way.
i do kinda like this in some ways. my main concern tho with vehicles being leveled via xp would be balance for the rest of the game ( person + transport both leveling at the same time... might make it to easy) i personally i could see vehicles being upgraded (maybe researching stuff for the vehicles eg guns .. tyres. boots for creature mounts that type of stuff) any way just mainly wanted to say good idea keep them coming ..
Yeah, I do agree that vehicles would at some stage be overpowered, but it was just the idea that I came up with. Thanks by the way!
I totally agree with mark baldwin, it would be awesome if the mountables leveled up, but with exp they would get overpowered sometime. In my opinion it would be nice if there was and academy building in a planet of super intelligent creatures, where you can somewhat pay for them to research some kind of technology for your mount and it would be very expensive and it would take a lot of time, but keep gathering each part like this, every part gets more expensive and takes even more time, and in the end you would have an awesome vehicle. xD
Yeah, that sounds reasonable enough. I wasn't originally planning for the "leveling up" to be easy, just having it there in the game.
I would alter your suggestion to something similar. Mybe some kind of experience bar for the player for different types of mounts that reflect how good he can use a mechanical/biological mount. The higher his experience is the better is the combat/driving output boosting the mounts combat/movement ability. The boost could be + .5% damage output per level achieved and + .5% movement boost while the total of max. levels could be 100. If mounts have some sort of weapon slot to make them more deadly this level buff gives you a bonus that won't get out of hand to much while giving you some credit for using some type of mount more often.
Yeah, that sounds good, but I'm still thinking about mark baldwin's comment that it can get too overpowered, maybe leveling will stop at a certain level and when you go to a new planet or finish a main quest, you can level up a little bit more?
Depends how you scale it and how fast/slow you level. Best way would be to have mounts have no level and make them only more powerfull through different kinds of equipment. It doesn't always have to be just weapons and shields but you also could make more than just 2 slots for different kind of equipment like sensors, armor plates, power cores, etc. That's for the mechanicle mounts. For Biological mounts you could have similar slots that are called differently that are tied to Bioengineering...stronger muscles for speed, eye implants, skin hardening, etc. Every slot could serve a different purpose and would modify the mount/mech what would define it's performance. Should be a more controlable system that takes longer to get better with the ability to customize you mount.
Yeah, that sounds like a pretty good idea, in fact, I think that's a GREAT idea! The weird thing (but kinda cool) is that people are coming up with suggestions on threads completely unrelated to what the thread was originally posted for. I'm not saying that that's happened and I think it would be cool if it did happen, it's just that we were talking about leveling mountables, not customizing, but that's completely fine, I think it's a great suggestion and they might implement it into the game. I say as long as we're getting good ideas, the thread isn't getting too off track. =)
True it's a bit off. I suppose progression regarding mounts can be achieved multiple ways. It's hard to make good suggestions that tie in with the game because there still isn't that much info released. My Idea was primarily to give a mount a more dynamic and user related progress. Also depends how you would like to level a mount. I have another idea that could fit in with leveling with a bit of a twist. You could divide mounts into multiple sections and level them per usage. Let's say you take damage and your "resistance" values raise/level over time. Could be even split in different damage types. Think of it as a learning machine that tries to adapt the more experience it get's. Or if you jump alot you could get a bonus to it over time. Similar to what you had in the Bethesda games. A dynamic learning system. Some of this learnin processes could directly be tied to the mount while some values would be character values, representing the amount of what he learned. You could even tie it to research. Let's say you learn to drive you mount better and better over time because your used to it (makes you level it allready in some way) and in addition come up with ideas how to improve it, unlocking the ability to research better parts in a give area. Don't know if those ideas would fit in the direction that you are trying to go. Just leave me some feedback so that i can help you with your suggestion a bit more Or do you prefer a more standard leveling progress...xp against value.
