One thing i think that would have made Terraria better is a level up system. If it was added in starbound it would give you more reason to go out and kill monsters. Just an idea let me know what you think.

I'm not really sure if that would fit. "Level" will definitely be determined by gear, as the game is mainly about exploration and understanding of planets, not about killing every animal you see.

Having levels in this game would just encourage grinding. Using gear as a way for your character to become stronger is a great way to get players to go out and explore. Also with an xp based level system players could just set up a mob grinder and get to the max level overnight with no effort.

I agree with the statment above. This also means that you dont need work for the best gear to be very powerful. A level system will determined by how long someone plays instead of how well you play

I have to agree with them, I liked how the gear scaled up with how far you explored not how much.

In my opinion, a level up system does not require true skill, you could grind the weakest enemy for years and get the highest level.
But a system where everything is determined by equipment which must be acquired through fighting monsters that will get progressively harder and harder
    will prove your skill.
    It's like Monster Hunter.

The way I see it there could be a different method to leveling up, such as this one thread had an idea were every time you discovered something new (weapon type, enemy group, ect) you'd earn exp. This would take out grinding and replace it with exploring. Also, I had an idea in which certain quests could only be completed by a high enough level (don't worry, not all would be) and every 4 levels you could choose one skill, but also one weakness (i.e: increased melee attack, less speed) and the level cap might be 24.
(similarities to fallout are intentional somewhat)

It should be modded, but not put into the game, in my opinion I don't really want it.

    I don't think that it's necessary.

    Absolutely not.

I think they already mentioned that they aren't using a "Leveling" system.
I'm glad that they aren't, imagine a bunch of people calling other people Noobs based on levels T_T
Only your actions deserve to make people judge you.
Leveling systems become to complicated :\

I just get the good loot, I don't need exp but for others there can be a mod so we don't get forced into having exp, for those who don't want it, such as me.

Guys, this had been confirmed as NOT in the game already. Progression will likely be equipment-based, with possible tech trees.

I would definitely not like this in the game, it would kind of ruin it a little bit, regardless of again, how awesome it may be. I am glad to see that it isn't in game but there could be mods to add this feature instead of having the players being forced into having something they may not want or like.

Maybe level up not by killing monsters, but by how much of the space you have explored and research about.

  16. In Starbound Style it could work as Progression. But since there isn't leveling the progression will be Gear and Tech Only.

  17. FrozenFlame

    FrozenFlame Giant Laser Beams

    Probably, as a mod.

    Sorry for that.

A mod for that will be cool, but not in the original game.

is not necessary i hope in a teck tree sistem research

If I "had" to put this in the game, I would probably use this idea, scratch the perk part and have level up simply raise max hp/energy by a slight bit. Not so much as to make a great difference, from level1 to max, the total increase might be just 100% (double). Other than that, yes, definitly in a mod, not the main game.
