      Fisherman by a longshot.

Crab Pots are very unreliable and only allow you 1 catch per day. Meanwhile, if you become a Fisherman, and take both of the Profit-related perks, you can easily pull in 3, 4, 5k per day not counting what your farm is producing. That's far more than you'd get out of crab potting, unless you had hundreds of pots laying around.

This highly depends. If you have an excess of time to fish that you don't use in the mines, Fisher is better, if you mine a bunch crabpots are better. That said check their respective level 10 talents and understand that unless you are playing g super laid back and casual by the summer of year 2 money becomes a non issue

Agreed. One of the few niggles I have about this game is that, by the time you level up enough to gain access to the "More Money for X" perks, you're not really worried about money anymore.

well I dunno about that. I got my Lv5 fishing in late Year 1 where money was still valuable to me, and because I had already finished the Mines at that point, my First Winter, I had nothing to do but fish, fish, fish because I had no animals yet (I focused on the mine and upgrading tools during the first year).

That first Angler perk made me a nice amount of money to plunge into Year 2 with.

Yeah I went for profit because fishing is a really nice way to make early money for upgrades and buildings. I'm really only using crab pots right now to fill out the junimo packages.

It probably doesn't help that I'm a packrat and ended up saving an entire chest full of fish for completion/community center bundles' sake instead of selling everything I caught. I never found the extra 50g per gold-star fish to be all that useful compared to what my animals and crops were pulling in, but hey, everyone can play differently and be successful, which is one of the more beautiful and impressive things about this game.

Well at the early stage I'm finding that crops are taking a lot of energy to keep and only offer periodic chunks of change which tends to go straight into buying new seeds. So I just use the time after 6pm each day to go fishing for a bit at the lake or river gold star spots and just haul in the fish. Sometimes I get greedy and have to keep using the journal glitch to stop myself passing out on the way home. But I can make an easy couple of grand each day from it depending on how long I spend there. I am finding the lvl20 cave lake a pretty good spot too now, especially since I can very quickly go back to level 0 and use the minecart back home. And the fish there fetch a nice price.

                    ...Journal glitch?

First I've heard of this, heh. I always try to stop when I hit 5 energy or so though, myself.

Getting down to Level 40+ in the mines and getting enough Iron Bars to make 15-20 Advanced Sprinklers is the key. Once you have a handful of them in place, your time to water crops in the morning drops to a couple hours, tops, and you'll have a much fuller energy bar, as well. From there you can focus on fishing or foraging or just sucking up to everyone with presents.

Another helpful side effect of doing Floor 40+ mine runs is that the coal you get from the Soot Sprites down there will allow you to build some Preserves Jars (I'd try to get 4-6 when you can), meaning you can turn all your leftover 35g fruit into into 120-180g Jams and ALSO make great gifts for all but 3-4 villagers.

Don't forget all the Geodes you can get, to fill up the artifact room and/or sell the proceeds from. Further increasing your profits and/or gifts you can give to people!

From someone who enjoys the fishing in Stardew Valley (My first skill to level 10) I got Fisher at level 5 and Angler at level 10. For me it was a good way to get money early on because I didn't bother with any farm related things for a good 2 years. My stats during that year from top to bottom were 2, 7, 7, 10, 7. As for now that I'm fairly late into the game I would've preferred to go with Trapper into Mariner since I spend most of my time just skipping days waiting for things to grow. Honestly just a preference of play but if you're in it just for money's sake then go for the price enhancers.

I say the biggest problem with relying on crab pots is that you need so much to get them going.

Building them requires Iron Bars, and buying them costs a whopping $1500 each.

Then you need to have 1 bait per Pot per day, so you either have to spend cash buying hundreds of Bait from Willy, or you have to do a low-level mine run every so often in order to get a bunch of bug guts to turn into bait.

Then you have to spend in-game hours each day running down to the river and the beach to check on your pots and refill them with bait.

On top of all that, you get trash about 50% of the time, meaning you have to spend even MORE time and resources putting the trash into recycling machines in order for half of your bait to not end up wasted.

I dunno, I'm just not a fan. I'd rather sell my catches for more money, even if it is something I do infrequently.

Well,if you spec for crab pots, they're cheaper to make and then at 10 you can choose between either not having to bait them or never getting trash.

You're also blowing two perks to make them "pretty good" instead of "mostly a waste of time"...

I suppose that early game, the fishing profit achievements are better, but late-game, the crab pot achievements would be better.

Late-game with building your farm up with lots and lots of artisan goods machines, and the sheer time it takes to mess with those machines, you certainly don't have time to go fishing, which means your fishing money perks are useless.

But yet early game, you can't really afford to go crab potting until quite a bit later.

I wholeheartedly agree with this by a long shot, I'm in Year 4 and I rarely go fishing nowadays even though I have both price modifiers since I don't need money. It just ends up becoming 2 wasted perks.

Fishing in general just seems to be a fun (?) diversion when you have lots of time and energy and are done farming for the day and don't really want to hit up the mines.

That's the problem with a lot of perks, except the Artisan Goods perk -- it seems to me that a lot of them will eventually become useless.

The Artisan Goods perk is the only oddity because that's how the vast majority of the money in the game is to be made, through the use of artisan goods because they are just that ridiculously awesome for making money.

And even then, once you buy everything and you're sitting on millions of gold.... then you don't really NEED the money.

Hopefully at some point CA will add some really, really pricey house decorations that we can buy, or some other money sink.
