Lets talk about the fandom

I'm not sure if I can post this here or not, but I live on tumblr, okay?

The things I see under the starbound tag.... I question. alot.

I know the devs can't do anything about the XXX content, but seriously guys? The game isn't even out yet and there is the starbound fandom, than that one little fraction that everyone just questions.

So to make this a topic and not just spam, Where are you in the starbound fandom?

IA and yukari came out last year in the vocaloid fandom and I haven't found ANY decent content of them. I guess some things just escalate quicker

Not really. Look at the new pokemon, they released a teaser video for the three new starters, A TEASER video for a game that wasn't going to be released for a year, and the exact same day there was R34 of them.

Though I really think this thread won't go very far, it's hard to keep it clean when talking about stuff that's not. =P So I'll probably dip out.

 

I do find that odd how this game is getting such rule 34 attention given the graphics. Maybe the humanoid animal crowd took notice and amplified pornographic interest.

 

well, stepping aside from the r34 content, how do you think people are taking the beta? Like should they really be nagging 24/7, or should they calm down

 

I just honestly want the game to meet release so I can evaluate how much of the darker parts of this game's fandom mucked it up. I'm especially holding that against the hat/name/weapon contributors. There's a few weird ones...

Yes, I'm literally anticipating the game's release so I can now comb it for horrible contributions. This is what being preoccupied with this forum has done to me at this point. I just want the knife to hit me in the heart so I can move on. It's like anxiety for the worse case scenario to happen.

So yeah once the game's out, I'm likely out of here. This place is uncomfortable as is. If Minecraft taught me anything? This place is going to hell after launch.

 

So what's this R34 Starbound fandom like? Two flesh-coloured pixels per tit instead of one clothing-coloured?

Yeah welcome to the internet , I myself don't really get involved in that element- not against it or anything though. I'm here for roleplay, having fun and hopefully meeting lovely people. I guess I'm just a gamer with an interest in Starbound and roleplay. I think something this interesting and a sandbox with galactic potential is going to be amazing. The only things that personally irk me is when I see people demanding beta now- being generally rude and disrespectful to others and with a huge sense of entitlement. Thankfully this community is lovely so that seems to be a rare case that I've only actually seen outside of this forum so far. Then again I am relatively new and I've not been able to read through every single thread.

But all that said, the artistic talent in this community and literary talent here is wonderful, but the second option down for me

 

I say let the fans do what they want and the devs can figure out themselves how to handle it

they seem like (fairly) smart people I guess.

Starbound is NOT a fandom. The second it gets commonly deferred to as a "fandom" is the second I leave this community. It's a great community, but Fandoms piss me off a lot. The Homestuck Fandom is the entire reason I stopped reading Homestuck. It's atrocious.

 

It's the Internet, what did you expect? I tend to avoid sites like that.

 

Well this generation even people my age in there twenties, were raised on instant gratification and have no patience and also post before thinking.

I'd not even heard about Homestuck until I joined this forum so I can't comment on the "fandom" but for me certainly I can understand how larger groups of fans can put you off something. For example you also see the said "fans" of certain youtubers/anime series whatever essentially trolling everything that moves with immature drivel, It's that moment that I just take a step back and distance myself from the "fandom".

Personal example of that is people who say X anime is better than Y in comments or posts clearly baiting immature stuff in that just, defender of the faith horrible attitude so to speak. That's something that can just tar a group.

It will probably get busy and a bit crazy yeah, if it gets too bad- just go lurk again. That said by that point hopefully you'll just be too busy playing the game!

 

I think my problem is, I've been here from the beginning. It's infuriating to see this community turn into one of those Homestuck or Anime communities that greatly annoy me so much.
