Let's talk about color problems

Do you have any issues telling things apart?

I am not colorblind in the slightest, but my main problem is that platinum is just silver without a dark border and that yes, all of the cobblestone from different sources looks the same and doesn't stack.
I get why the latter is a thing - the blocks are differentiated just like different colors of blocks are, and if you ever get the ability to turn them back into the original block it would be a good idea to keep then separate, but they currently have no difference besides where they sit in your inventory (unless they look different when placed? I don't know)

I wonder if there might be some kind of machine down the road that will allow you to basically pump in any kind of a particular block to switch it all to the same color of that kind of block so you can stack stuff from different planets easier, and then a way to change them to the other colors at the same machine or something.

Checked on that, I have three different cobble stacks, and they all look slightly different when placed.

From experience, Platinum has a yellower, off-white outline while silver has a blue, dark outline. I have no difficulty differentiating the other ores, though.

Me, everytime: Is that Platinum?! Nope... it's actually silver.
Me, sometimes: This is probably silver but it's in my way so I'll mine it--- IT'S PLATINUM YAY!

Silver to me looks to have a dark grey outline while platinum looks pure white, titanium looks purple/blue and is very distinct to me so I never understood the confusion. Anyhow, if it's a major issue you can always go into the files and paint them more distinct colours until the problem is fixed.

I'm sorry but it isn't "very" distinct. It's mildly distinct and it could use a change. You may have your monitor set to an setting that allows the differences to be "very distinct", but for the most far the colors of the edge are varying shades of light grey. Titanium stands out in my opinion, and it's because of the blue grey edges. If they were just a simple variation of grey, it would be more difficult to discern titanium from silver and platinum.

  8. For the people saying they have near perfect vision but have trouble distinguishing between the colors, it could be because they're pretty similar colors. I googled images of all three metals and unless I was a prospector or a jeweler it's doubtful I'd be able to pick one of these out from the others as a particular metal.

I think silver and titanium are easy to pick out. I think the culprit is platinum in my case, but platinum is more rare for me normally so it's always a surprise when I get some.

I have bad eyesight, and I can't tell a single one of the bars apart except diamond and copper. The outlines would help, but it's impossible to memorize them all.

These are my problems as well as I'm red/green colorblind.

Hell, I'm not colorblind and I still can't reliably tell the difference between silver and platinum.

Why don't you have a "no" option?

I'm a bit nearsighted, perfect color vision. Silver and platinum are an issue, yeah. I think, if they don't want to change the color, changing the shape of the ore patterns could help a lot. If one is blobby and the other is blocky or jagged, it would matter less if they're both close shades of grey.

I think what might be really called for is mods that swap the pallets of the various blocks/ores/etc in accordance with the needs of each type of color indifference/blindness. Or texture packs, if that's a thing we can do at this point.

Kinda accidentally ticked the ores apart. It's not major, but I have issues trying to find coal in some block types because they're so dark it almost blends in.
Line above 20/20 vision here, so it can't just be me.

I didn't really make the thread to weigh the people with problems against people who don't have problems, rather to get a gauge of the number of people who are having problems, so I never really thought it would be necessary to put a negative response in the poll. That's why I have multiple choice available, also, to get a sort of total distribution of problems.
