Feedback Let's admit it, the workshop is incomplete.

The hotbar had a bunch of mixed opinions, and I've learned to accept that. But let's all collectively agree, the Starbound Workshop in it's current state sucks.
First off, there's no filter to separate Frackin Universe from Starbound Except It Makes That Weird Tim Allen Noise When Monsters Die, which is a problem. There's nothing separating client from server side mods, forcing people to ask the mod creator.
Next, the way mods work in-game. Currently, there's no way to effectively disable mods while still being subscribed to it. Anyone who wants to play with their friend who doesn't have the mods you do has to go to each individual mod page from Steam, unsubscribe from the mod, relaunch Starbound, and join their friend's world. When they want to play the with the mod again, they have to close Starbound, subscribe to the mod from Steam, and relaunch Starbound. The entire process just seems tedious and I wish Chucklefish takes some time to work on this in the future.

Tl;dr We need filters for the workshop and a disable/enable option for mods from in-game.

Yea, the main thing missing is an in game mod manager similar to skyrim/civ where you can choose which to enable and disable.

This still applies, guys. The workshop has turned into literal cancer. Can we PUHLEASE get a filter?

*shameless bump* Was there any word from CF about a mod filter?

We have been asking since 1.0X3 they have been really busy putting together post launch updates. Would still be nice to get a filter on stream

Filters would be nice, but mostly the ability to turn mods on and off would be excellent.

Some mods are not so easily "toggled" on or off. FU is one such example.

Which is a good point, most modders to their credit make this known in the mod description.

I'm not sure they could fix all issues, as many things are on Steam's end. But at least give us categories. Maybe tags too.

If possible, a sort for most recently updated mods... Like how things work here. The forum handles mods well for the most part.

Not everyone wants the "newest" mods, but wants mods that are actively being developed still, and recently updated tells you this. Plus one assumes a mod updated after a SB update will itself be up to date.

They need to not have mods install into some random steam folder and instead install to the game folder itself. Also not have workshop mods have random serial numbers for their file names. Playing offli e !sans workshop mods won't work.

They went about the implementation all wrong, so I won't use the workshop, for downloading or uploading, at all.

Yeah the separate folder is an issue. You could solve it via symbolic links, but that's a "solution" which is beyond most people's ability and comfort level I think. CF needs a better implementation that doesn't require that sort of technical workaround.

The numbers aren't quite "random" though. They correspond to the mod's ID which you can pull out of the URL like so.
    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=772812959
    will install to
    steamapps\workshop\content\211820\772812959
Or in reverse you could take that number(to see which mod it was) and plug it into the URL. Again that's going to be lost on most people.

Another gripe though is those folders all contain contents.pak
Would it really be that hard for the uploader to take the "name" attribute from _metadata and name the file according to that? Of course not. The uploader already reads this information, and creates it if not present already. That sure would be nice if people could at least see player start modifier.pak and therefore know what it is without having to jump through additional hoops?

How about generating folder names by appending that name string to the number ID aka
    steamapps\workshop\content\211820\player start modifier784870512
That would be a substantial improvement.

    --edit--
I wonder if I should write up a "how to" make symbolic links guide? Granted I haven't done so for myself(for this game) but I could make it use workshop mods while offline for sure.. and that would probably help server people too.

It "might" cause an issue of running the game from Steam(online) trying to load workshop mods twice. That might not be fatal, but would show in the logs I'm sure. I'm speculating... because I haven't DONE it to see how Starbound would react.

There is one. Nexus is starbound compatable, has mods and you can use Nexus Mod Manager. I haven't really tried it as of yet, but it does a dang good job managing skyrim mods so its worth a shot.

Some people seem to have a stigma around the Nexus. Not sure why. It is the main mod host for all the BethesdaGS games and has been for years. And unlike the steam workshop, the mods you upload to the nexus are moderated, so if you report illegal content, it will actually be looked at and appropriate action taken.

The Workshop really is a pain the arse to navigate....

And for some reason I totally forgot the Nexus had Starbound stuff on it, even though I spend way too much time on there for Fallout 4 mods.
