Less ore grind, and tree seeds.

okay, so I have reached endgame for the second time. While the game is incredibly fun, I feel there should be a way to progress without digging. Now, this does not mean that i want ores to completely go away simply that there should be multiple methods to achieve progress. I propose a dungeon sort of thing (similar to terraria) that could hold items that could allow progression with little mining if any. On a side note, I would love tree seeds because the interesting variation in trees is so nice that i feel without them there is a waste in potential. Tell me your thoughts everyone! :D

So you want the ability to just randomly progress for how ever much, you realize planets aren't set in stone so, the chances of running into your 'dungeon' would be so low that it might as well not exist anyway.

    Tree Tool:
-scans trees and creates schematics for them
-uses [insert material here] to create a place-able tree
Could also be expanded to include other types of place-ables like small plants, crystals, etc.

No seeds. There are too many trees types for that.

Progression items in chests/as dungeon rewards? I have to dislike this because it relies way too heavily on RNG. I like progression being something that I know I can work my way through, not something that I can cheat my way through because I happen to have godly amounts of good luck.

Seeds would just add too much clutter. I like the idea of a scanner for trees and similar objects though.

True, i just wish there was a way i could progress without digging, and instead via exploration. Plus, the dungeon thing was simply a suggestion, what I really made this thread for was to see how other people feel such a thing could be implemented, or if it doen't need to be implemented at all.

I personally feel like the underground is currently very sparse because of many missing yet to come generation features. Also I don't get why some people have such a grudge against mining.

I would prefer that you must collect resources at the beginning, fuel your ship, get basic equipment, after that you might not have to dig much because you should be able to do quests and trade and explore to acquire resources.
Hopefully in the future there will be space ports and cities and mining colonies that you can buy various resources from without having to dig them up yourself.

No digging? No thanks, I love spelunking!

But we definitely need tree seeds/saplings!

The main issue with seeds is that random tree generation means there would be a massive number of possible tree seed items which wouldn't stack and would contribute to item clutter. An alternative could be to make a single seed and have the tree's type be determined by the biome of the planet you panted it on, but that leaves you with no control over which kind of tree you want.

I suppose if you wanted to get fancy you could set up something that let you pick what kind of tree you wanted and spit out specific seeds on demand, but there would need to be some way to control what trees are available. To control that, you'd probably need some way to track which trees the player has encountered (either by obtaining an item from them, or some other means of tracking) which would require extra coding in the game itself, since it's not currently possible to implement something like that.

So for the time being, I don't see any sort of tree planting system popping up any time soon.

As for the exploration topic, you could have the smithies in villages sell raw ores for ludicrous pixel prices. That would enable players to progress by exploring and killing creatures, and allow them to maybe grab a few more of those rare ores without spending ages mining for a few more ores, but if the prices were balanced correctly, it would still give the player incentive to mine, due to the high cost of directly buying the ore. If executed correctly, by the time the player has strong enough items to be able to farm pixels enough to afford to buy copper, for example, they would already be at a higher tier of equipment.

The concern I have with that system is that it would be very hard to encourage backtracking which could be used to make early sectors relevant at later parts in the game, and might be worth serious consideration.

The game is still in BETA.. there will be more endgame stuff soon.. i dont even think Impervium gear is endgame.. yet! its probably like the Gold armor in terraria.. theres gonna be a ton more stuff! in the future.

I'd say that isn't helpful, but meh, not for me to judge.

Anywho, I'm fairly sure that the trees will simply drop seeds on their own, but the fact they aren't in yet is merely a symptom of betaness, not to dismiss your point at all, it'll get better. maybe in a few months or something.

Or there will be a mod That's even more likely.

It would be nice if NPCs sold resources.

I feel like, when drills are up to snuff and there's more to see in the underground, digging won't be as much of an issue. Currently it's extremely tedious and boring, but I feel they don't need to change how digging/ores work itself, just things around it.

As for tree seeds, there are too many random generated trees for specific seeds to work. However, customization would be a definite thing. I want some crystal trees outside my tentacle biome house, damnit!
