LESS crafting stations - Upgrades instead

Would you like to see some of the crafting stations consolidated?

Well, I might be the only one who thinks like this, but I thought I'd share this idea anyway.

For me personally, I feel like all the different crafting stations become a bit of a convoluted mess at times. I find it greatly slows my progress when I keep switching between tables, forgetting which table/station does what.

Some good examples: Why on earth can I not cook meat at my furnace? Why must I have a campfire, and a furnace, separately? Or why can I not add fuel to my ship from the Pilots chair.

I would like to see some of the table consolidated, like upgrades instead of additional tables. Examples:

    - Crafting table upgrades into the robotic work table. Does the duty of both, utilizing even more tabs at the bottom for organization.

    - Furnace can upgrade into the metal working station, once again doing both duties, and utilizing tabs for organization. You really should be able to cook meat here, however, for advanced cooking:

    - Campfire can upgrade into the cooking table.

    - Fuel for ship can be added using the main navigation "station" - as in, the captains chair. Would make more sense to add fuel at the same place as you control the flight of your ship.

    - I also think it'd be nice to implement this in such a way that mod developers can use it too. I've tried some mods that add some really cool equipment, but with everything being it's own machine, you soon have to build a massive base to house it all. Rather inconvenient when Starbound is such a Nomadic game. Also, I really find it breaks up the flow of my work project, visiting so many stations.

    So on and so forth.

I feel like this would really help me anyways with the clutter and distraction of having tons of different equipment littered around my base.

In short - same amount of crafting as before, but in a much more streamlined manner.

Not sure if anyone else would prefer this, but I'd love to hear either way. I've added a poll at the top, in case anyone cares to vote. :)

Thanks for listening guys. Happy Star Exploring!

I'm tired of this Minecraft mentality. One is for smelting and the other is for cooking, that's just how it works!

Already works like this. Robotic Crafting Table does everything the Wooden Crafting Table does and more.

But the Metalworking Station already upgrades from the Anvil.

No. Just, no. Two separate items.

Yes, because I put gasoline directly into my steering wheel... Oh wait.

I agree with everything you said. The only thing I like in this thread is the idea of having tabs or buttons on the Robotic Crafting Table and Metalworking Station to only show things from their non-upgraded versions.

there's really no reason for it to work that way. and don't even think about responding with 'realism'...

but OP, this is only a big issue right now because of the limited spaceship size
although I do agree about the sorting tabs.

I think the main problem is that, right now, everything related to crafting is a mess.

At this moment I actually prefer several crafting stations with correctly distributed recipes. Now we have the stone pickaxe and the stone hoe at the Crafting table, but the rest of the pickaxes are craftable at the anvil. Then we have armors and weapons that are craftable at the anvil, but later some armors are craftable at the crafting table. Also, Snow Infantry Armor is only craftable at the spinner.

I would like to keep things clean. Tools and tech at the Wooden/Robotic Crafting Table, please. Then Weapons and Armor at the Anvil/Metalwork Station. Let's keep casual clothes and vanity items at the Yard Spinner. Electronics at the Wiring Station? Fine, as it means less items to look through in other crafting stations. Cooking Table for food? Yes please. I don't fry my chips in my iron furnace, that's not healthy.
And sorry if I sound rude, but don't tell me
because with that in mind we could very well craft steel chains at the Yarn Spinner or cook Alien Meat at a toilet. Why not? who cares about realism after all? /sarcasm off

This game has (suposedly) a science-fiction setting. Science Fiction may be far from being realist (unless we are talking about very hard science fiction, which is not the case) but it always looks for a little verisimilitude, and thus this not being realist is no excuse to cook steaks in a furnace (even more, please, mod a microwave oven. Better yet let's mod and particle-heating insta-oven). I won't say "lets keep this realist", but please let's keep this plausible.

It's possible (i hope so) that developers will make a more organized crafting system in the future, or at least allow us to use sorting tabs, as you guys said (I would kill for a feature like that). But I really think that at the moment, reducing the number of crafting stations is not the way to go.

Are you that lazy to craft a flipping table, if your serious you shouldn't be playing this game. We don't even have very much items in the game yet, and your already complaining about a mess of materials?

Upgrading a campfire to a crafting table doesn't make any sense either.

Normally I like most suggestions people come up with, but this one just doesn't convince me.
