This one was inspired by an episode of Xena. True story. So, there are a lot of interesting foods that we can make, with interesting buffs. The cap on those buffs is that we have to wait until our character is "hungry" again in order to eat another one, but it is otherwise relatively unlimited, as 1000 wheat and 1000 meat will always = 1000 hamburgers. With the implementation of a simple timer, block types could be crafted that would only be manufacturable every so many minutes (even days). This opens up a lot of room for craftable blocks with extraordinary properties. One idea might be a food like "Ambrosia", which would require one of every ingredient in the game. Consuming it could provide endless energy for a minute and thirty seconds. Crafting it could only happen once every 24 real-life hours. This could allow a player to, for example, rocket-boot up to low orbit. Another thought might be bomb crafting. Plutonium could be used as an ingredient for a Nuke, which could only be constructed once every three or four days, and would clear out two or three screens worth of blocks. Either of these items are far too powerful to allow in a (non-cheat) vanilla Starbound game, at least in quantity. Putting a time limit on their construction could change that.
