leaky houses in thunderstorms

so I have a large house project I've been playing with on our server. and the planet my friend and I chose is absolutely amazing. the mobs are sorta strong for starting level, but it's a nice place to call home.
it has every weather phenomenon save for acid rain. so we get a lot of rain, meteor showers, and thunderstorms with really add to the ambiance...

however... I've noticed that then a thunderstorm hits flooding seems to be an issue. now for crops and stuff outside I have a drainage system in place, but I've noticed something.

I return to my house and my fireplace has been washed away... Again... For the 40th time. I've tried everything to seal this leak up but somehow the water block keeps getting through to wash it away. is anyone else having this problem? or am I doing something wrong?

any helpful advise would be appreciated

    thanks in advance!

Hum, that's weird! I didn't even realize that could be an issue. (Though generally I don't even bother with building a house till the final sector.)

What are you using for roofing material? Perhaps some of them are less waterproofed than others.

  3. That does sound strange to me, I wonder if it's a bug. Maybe you should report it?

What blocks are you using for your roof?

How high is your roof? Because if it gets unloaded from the game while the inside is then the inside will be effected by weather.

  8. Heavy rain can cause floods, dude.
Particularly in countries that have a monsoon season.

Seriously since when is their floods in the game? :p

  10. Probably since the patch that added a few more weathers.

but since the patch i've never seen anything different with the way rain interact with the world

  12. Neither have I, but I've been spending all my time modding the game.
Also, the wiki, and the author of this thread, say that flooding occurs.

I had the same problem. I fixed it by going over all the walls, floors, and ceilings and making sure they had back walls filled in behind them. I noticed a bug where a gothic arch placed on the one square thick roof inexplicably caused a leak into my house, so if you have decorative items on your roof that may be a problem. You may also want to make sure that the roof edge juts out past the outer walls so water doesn't run down them. Finally, try knocking out one square of the back wall just above the floor to act as a drain. If you don't know where the water is coming from, try partitioning the house off with doors and keeping them shut, it'll pool fairly quickly in a small area.

  14. Since the last update, rain drips off of ledges now and it pools up, it's not so much a rushing flood, just water pools forming everywhere.

This happened to me too. I made a base on a volcanic world, in a cave I dug out that ended up being surrounded on every side by over 10 layers of volcanic rock. For good measure I surrounded my house with rainbow mood planks. There was an entrance that extended above the ground, with a roof over it that diverted water away, so there was no reason water would be able to get in.

Every time it rained these huge water droplets would fall right through the middle of the house, knocking my crafting stations out and generally wrecking things. They would come down through the thickest part of the rock above me, which was about 20 layers thick at that spot. Also, If I stood in one corner it appeared to be raining in the other side of the house...I don't think it was flooding because everything was basically sealed up, and there was no way for water to flow in because my chimney/entrance extended far above the surface and it was covered too. Unless water runs through solid volcanic rock AND my super fabulous rainbow walls.

If your roof gets unloaded, it can rain in your house, try this, dig underground a bit (Not too far) and make a huge open area, with a roof high enough you cant see it, then when it rains go there, an it will rain IN the box, going up to where you can see the roof blocks will stop the rain, i made a Hellivator and it rained in it... when going up i would see rain, then when nearing the top it stopped, Rain needs a update on how it works, cuz the water would break my torches off the wall all down the helivator

Ah, that's what caused it then. My roof wasn't visible onscreen due to the size of my dwelling.

At least your weather cloudy with a chance of heavy rain. Try working with meteors.

we do get meteor showers on occasion but i think you mean the house destroying kind. and yeah if they implemented the weather like that there should think of some way to stop that.

welcome to starbound... harvest and build whatever you want... just keep it small scale or it'll rain inside your builds. oh and no back walls or will pool and collect
    that's sort of a problem

You mean "Welcome to Beta". Didn't anyone tell you? Expect things to go wrong. Personally, I'm happy so much of this game is going right.

My house has a bell tower in the ceiling. It's very high. So I also have this problem in certain parts of my house. But I don't get flooding because the only weather pattern my home gets is acid rain which doesn't seem to flood.

If flooding is a serious problem, consider maybe having one empty hole in your back wall at the floor level, hidden behind some furniture like a crafting table, wardrobe, cooking table or a crate or what-have-you. No hole visible, good bye water. Has anyone tried this to see if it would work?
