Lava makes no sense whatsoever.

If I walk over a single block of lava in the ground, I take 100 damage from the Melting debuff. That seems a little excessive, considering my sprite didn't even touch the lava, it merely walked over it, but okay, I guess I can live with that.

On the other hand, if you immerse your entire body in lava, you take a measly 12 damage every second or so. This is easily overcome by eating a Regen 3 food and gulping down medkits or some other readily-available instant-health food. If I enter the lava quickly enough, I don't even get the Melting debuff.

Here's a video showing you what I mean. The rate at which I eat medkits in this video is a lot faster than I actually need to, it doesn't need to be anywhere near this fast to swim in lava indefinitely.

It's lava, who says it HAS to make sense. :mwahaha:

These one block lava traps are a huge pain I think. On some planets it's realy hard to see them and the expectation to walk over them just don't work. Killed me 3-4 times now.
But this lava swimming seems even more strange.
I think it would be a good idea to switch the direct and debuff dmg. So you'll get a hell lot of damage if you are in the lava and only a bit from the melting debuff.

well, i agree that this is quite stupid... lava should burn more, i guess.

    Haha, that video! =D

Yeah, the lava damage needs some looking at. I agree with Bruro that the damages should at least be swapped.

Honestly just being near lava should cause damage unless you're wearing protective armor.
But then again heat is "unfun" according to the devs.

They're going down the Convection Schmonvection route. Though I guess it is the future...

    Agreed.

And what's amusing is that somehow heat is "unfun", yet cold is entirely fun and amazing. Because I'd much rather have to stand near a fire (or other heat source) for every night cycle (early game - before warm armor), but I would for some reason think that having to wear protective gear near the planet's core is just excessive.

In fairness, you might want to consider why you're swimming at all :p - while lava is indeed liquid, it is liquid rock which is needless to say, still very dense, unless you plunged head-first into it you probably wouldn't break the surface (Or course, you'd still die screaming)

Those tiny pits with lava and poison are probably the biggest killer in the game right now - Imo you should have your feet submersed to feel the effect if any.
And they should both have faint visual effects going up from the puddles to make them more obvious.

Fish probably shouldn't be spawning in lava, too.

I've no problem with them swimming in it.
It just strikes me as odd that something that supposedly evolved in a place that has lava in it isn't immune to lava.

The debuff should be turned back into 1 - melting for all lava and lava related
The damage should be high but not instakill - 20% hp/s would be scary enough. That's 5 seconds and then dead

Then the icing on the cake - A craftable armour to make you lava proof so you can explore in lava.

I was doing the same thing yesterday - drilling to the bottom of planets. I had originally thought that the tentacle planets' cores contained elder gods or something related to HP Lovecraft. To my dismay, I found this to be entirely false, and every planet contained a simple magma core. With blithe I jumped into the third planet's core and again I was disappointed to find what SeaJay demonstrated when one deems this to be a fitting "death". Interestingly enough, it seems that the CORE's magma does relativity little damage (six to twelve damage a tic), yet magma or lava found on the surface of a planet or within dungeons, such as Floran prisons and Apex matter generators provide the melting debuff. Another point in which lava makes as much sense as modern art a pound cake glued to an umbrella in a microwave is the fact that cheap florescent lights, and everything other than water or torches, can survive within lava. I could built a dagnabbin' snow palace in the core of a plan- . . . New quest acquired.

I was going to tell you to be sure to report back on your Planet Core Snow Palace progress, but I'm sure you'll be coming back eventually to tell us about how it got whacked into smithereens by a meteor.

It was a very large meteor. About five pixels.

Lava should burn you when you get close. Honestly, Can YOU stand next to a pool of lava? We need a suit or something.

Also, anyone actually look at the lava? Stand still, look. Then move and look. It's fucked up. It only animates when you walk.

Technically, it's not even lava, but magma, since it's underg-- just sayin'!

Anyways, heh, yeah, guess easiest solution would be make lava, apart from adding Melting buff, remove all the healing regen buffs.

The two lava/snow/vile dirt planets I went to yesterday would disagree - Plenty of surface pools there.
