Lava at the core of the planet.

Now as you may know, if you get lost in some tomb and find diamonds under the tomb you'll go get it, then get lost forever.. Yes, forever, now my question is , as I was mining I saw diamonds a flickering red light that covered almost the whole room, I went to mine the diamonds and I mined a bit too hard, as I continued venturing through the shaft, I find a ocean of Lava , and my brain keeps going, "Mine around it." Is that even possible? Or is that just the end? Is there treasure at the core? Is there a boss? God? Please, answer these.

    theres nothing past the lava
the core of the planet is the same thing as the bottom of an asteroid belt, you just die instantly when you touch it
and theres no way around it, it goes across the whole planet

Thank you for the response, but wouldn't you find it quite interesting if they made it so that you could obtain some armor that would allow you a limited time in lava, in order to reach the "Main Core" and fight some sort of god there? I'd enjoy that idea.

Lava tends to, y'know, be the main core on most planets. There used to be a glitch where any land placed under lava would randomly spawn ores, but that's it.

well the thing about planets is that they are spheres. if you tunnel through the core you should be able to come out on the other side.

If you want to explore the magma, take a mass of an easily mined material and place it over the magma, replacing the blocks. In doing so, you can now mine directly into your newly placed blocks. In theory, you can drain the world of its magma by simply replacing it all. Its worth noting that every single block of magma counts as a source block that tries to fill any empty blocks back up to the magma line, so if you do plan to use replacement blocks to get around the magma, be sure not to make any mistakes, since death comes quickly.

A few more notes about magma in my experience is that when a semi-solid block such as fine sand or gravel collides with the magma source blocks, it is disintegrated. However, in the case that you have dug your way into the magma via replacement blocks, the game can get confused when the magma collides with the semi-solids, and thinks they are water, creating magmarock. Water itself will drain when touching magma unless there is too much water for the vaporisation to handle, in which case, you get a small mat of magmarock.

So in conclusion, take a ton of dirt with you if you want to mine around the magma.

Would be interesting to have a little something more down in the core of a planet. i was thinking of posting some kind of suggestion about that, but i'm hesitant because i don't know if there are any plans like that in the pipeline.

I recall during the alpha announcements and questions and such that this came up, and the developers said something along the lines of... The bottom of worlds would, due to the technical limitations of world wrapping in a 2D environment, have some kind of impassable barrier or environmental hazard. So, unless we're talking solid materials or other kinds of mantles, probably nothing new is going to be showing up in the cores of planets.

If that is the case it doesn't necessarily need to be below the lava core. the layers of planets are made up of various different biomes. I imagine that it wouldn't be too difficult to take the lowest biome, which is usually just magma rocks and stalactites, and replace it with some kind of dungeon or "core boss". I really like the idea of being able to tunnel down into the core of a tentacle planet and kill it's heart in some epic boss battle. Sounds cool right? Maybe it would be best to reserve my hopes for a mod that does this.

Well, the thing about having a liquid mantle in a planet is that its sort of essential to life ever being able to form, due to creating the magnetospheres that are needed to shield life from solar winds. The idea of a tentacle planet having a boss like core zone near the actual mantle would be cool, but its important to note that, at least based on what we know from current lore, tentacle worlds are just worlds where a cosmic tentacle monsters' offspring lands and grows. This is the backstory for why humans are in space, for example. What you're looking for would most likely come from mods, at any rate.

Personally, I'd like to see geothermal power stations that utilise the cores of planets. As for the power itself... probably something to use in complicated switch setups, or for automated production or something.

That may be true for reality, but anything is possible in a video game. It isn't exactly tied to realism. If alien life can exist on an asteroid field, i don't see why it can't live on a planet without a magma core. As for the tentacle planets, it is true that we don't know much about them yet, but that still makes it a possibility.

Also, the idea that digging to the core of the planet is a sub-conscious hassle since we do it without realizing, we should still get a reward >..> Also, it gives us a reason to stay on that planet rather than "Okay, I got diamonds, bye planet." It would also allow for a specific place where dungeons would be spawned , since they're random.

I'd been thinking a core boss would be cool as well. There should probably be some surface 'clues' as to roughly where you'd need to start digging down. It takes a LONG time to dig all the way around even a small planet. First time I reached a core I thought there was a core boss at first as I was hearing battle music and seeing flashes somewhere in the lava. Turned out it was just the fish that spawn in lava and then start burning to death.
