Lantern not bright enough?

The crafted lantern object doesn't seem to have enough brightness. Even the usable item highlight is brighter than it.



The first image is just wielding the lantern. The second image shows a mouseover on a bed, which glows brighter than the lantern.

 

The lantern is not supposed to be very bright, it has benefits over a flashlight because it goes all around you, but the drawback is it is not as bright. One good thing you can do though is dual wield the flashlight and the lantern for extra light.

 

Yeah, it's a balance thing.

 

The lantern you can wear on your back isn't very bright, but the tradeoff is it doesn't cost anything once made and ALWAYS lights around you.

 

OP is talking about the hand one, though.

 

The one you wear on your back is exactly the same lantern, just portable. ^_^

Just to clarify, it is in fact the handheld one, not the the one wearable on the back equipment slot. The handheld one is nowhere near as bright as the other one.

 

The handheld lantern does get useless pretty quickly, I think it could use a bit of a buff in terms of how much light it gives off. At least make it better than the one you can just throw on your back, which makes me not even want to use torches too much anymore unless I'm in a huge cave.

 

They're actually the same brightness, between the handheld and back-worn.

These were taken in the daytime about 30 blocks below the surface.

 

OP your screenshot is on the surface (So it is harder to judge distance) - But it DOES look pretty weak, too weak.

 

Can you back that up with any evidence? The lantern on a stick seems much brighter than the held lantern in my experience.

 

I need to see which lantern I'm using then because they look -exactly- the same when I compare them.

I'll check which one it is.

 

You can duel wield? I had no idea.

 

.... This is exactly why I made the hand lantern as opposed to using the flashlight.

I agree though it is fairly dim. I'm fine with it being dimmer than the flashlight, but I mean, to me the hand lantern barely seems to give off a useable amount of light.

 

The lantern needs to be held like a lantern.

And we need more one-handed weapons.
