Do you think there should be some NPCs, preferable quest givers and merchants, who can only be understood by certain races? As in, if a human player talks to a floran who doesn't know English, all they see is alien Mr. Saturn gibberish, while a floran player can read it normally. It'd add some flavor to a mission if you had to bring a translator with you, you know? It'd give some distinction between species if there were species-exclusive merchants. That can be twisted, as well; what if you meet a human who doesn't know a human language? What do you guys think?
So is there only one Floran language, or would there be many? I mean, humans, we've got English, Arabic, Russian, German, ect. So would there be several different languages for a single race? Also, would there be dead languages, like Latin?
I don't think it needs to be that complicated. Dead languages seem interesting, though, since a player would often be exploring ruins. But then, what if you find an Avian temple on a deserted planet? If the Avians had their own language, and met their end separate from the rest of the galaxy's inhabitants, their language would have no speakers. Then you'd have to do heavy research on it. I'm no expert on linguistics, but it seems to have potential.
It has been announced that each race speaks a sort of sim-ish language. They can understand each other. Having this in the game would just be annoying, in my opinion
The Universe do have a global language when it's about this. STILL it would be nice to some quests and merchants should only be intractable by people of the same race. :alien: Yes it's just for "audio-vanity" to make sense when talking to NPCs.
I get you. If my idea were reality, it'd be a very rare occurrence at best, or implemented a more interesting way (maybe some NPCs just don't like outsiders, or something).
Having all these different languages would probably be too much of a hassle for the player, especially if they have to find a translator for each language. Better to just allow everyone to understand each other.
