Knocksupial

My finest creation: Kangaroo John Knocksupial.

Scientists had outposts on planets all over. Their purpose was to enhance and combine animals to put on show for entertainment. They created many odd combinations, but Knocksupials are perhaps their oddest. Born with boxing glove-like hands, they settle disputes with their fists. Their boxing matches were quite popular. However, after a lightning bolt struck the pen they were stored in, they escaped. Knocksupials were oddly capable of surviving in the wild though. They stuck together and reproduced quickly, creating a thriving population. Poachers soon came, drawn by the easy pickings, and nearly exterminated these animals, to harvest their glove hands as well as their skin. However, they're making a comeback, and their population is steadily increasing.

This little guy is found on planets with large grasslands as well as some mountainous plateaus, and a lot of water on both ends (read: "planets that look like Australia"). They prefer to live in the caves that are high up in the mountains. They only come out to find food and water.

The basic Knocksupial has around 100 health, and little to no defense. However, they move very quickly, and their extra-springy legs allow them to jump to incredible heights. They hunt in packs whenever possible, so it's likely you'll fight three or more at once. Although they only do about 15 damage, they have insane knockback, which can be very deadly on the high plateaus of the planets they reside on.

Knocksupials are carnivores that have boxing glove-like hands that can deliver strong punches. They have incredibly powerful legs, which allow them to jump very high. Their ears are very sensitive to sound, and they allow them to locate their prey very easily. No one has ever seen them put something into their pouch, but evidence suggests they once stored unknown items in there. It's possible that those same items are stored somewhere else on their world.

If you kill him, you can get leather as well as a pouch, and his glove hands.

Leather can be used for creating things such as clothing. It's also sellable.
Pouches can be used as a special tech. When equipped, you get an extra five spaces of storage in your inventory. However, you can only have one on at a time.
Boxing gloves increase your unarmed damage by 10%.

The sprite took me about 30 minutes, mainly because I accidently saved it as a JPG, which is TERRIBLE for quality. I ended up redoing the entire coloring. Also, the legs were really hard to do. I'm still not that pleased.

Kangaroo John reminds me of Roger from Tekken

Perhaps a good name would be... Knocksupial? (-supial as in Marsupial)

it should have a crazy kick too, only thing i can see wron is the legs, kangaroo's legs are weird.

Trying to think of variations, but the only ones I can think of involve changing the colors of the gloves and adding status effects/damage types.

 

Ok, thanks to a suggestion on how to improve the sprite, I've changed the outline color, eye color, and a bit of the shading.
