Yay, Space Cat update! Anyone know of a race select mod working with Upbeat Giraffe so I can get the kitties? '3'

 

Hi Grat. Good to see you're still lurking around.
I think Kawa updated his character creation extender, the xbawks mod. Should be a link to it in my first post. If not, it's just a matter of adding:

"speciesOrdering" : ["human", "avian", "apex", "floran", "hylotl", "glitch", "novakid"],

to the charcreation.config file in the mod.

 

Ooo, space kitties in unstable version. I'll be giving that a try! c:

EDIT: It doesn't appear that kawa's character creation extender is updated for unstable. Hopefully adding that line of code to an extender will work, though.

EDIT 2: For some reason, joining an unstable version server with the correct version of this mod installed has some... issues. If I join with a kineptic I've already logged into once in single player, I get this notably and my fishtanks disappear:

There were a bunch of other errors thrown around too involving kineptic stuff, but that's the only thing that really disappeared. My starting pulse item, clothes, and everything else works fine - just the fishtanks disappear.

Annnd if I try to join the server as a kineptic without going onto my ship once in single player beforehand, I get this:

EDIT 3: Okay, so apparently monsters(or anything other creatures or anything) don't want to spawn on the server while I'm playing as a kineptic, but when I tested with a random avian character, they spawned just fine. Weird, considering I was still able to harvest crops and loot chests on my kineptic; I just noticed after a while that the planet was eerily empty.

I don't know if that's an issue with the mod or Starbound itself, but as I mentioned, an Avian was allowing monsters to spawn correctly. Hopefully the full log I previously attached to this post will help.

 

I don't know what's going on and I pulled the update back. I knew it wasn't a good idea to post it; I should've listened to my gut. I'm not going to be posting an update again until at least after the stable version is released.

Did you completely uninstall and reinstall the game when updating to Unstable?

Generally the game tends to freak out when you change build types. >_<

I went with a completely fresh installation and had no issues so my guess is it's probably some earlier download or something similar to that causing problems.

 

Hmm. Really? I haven't had issues with that when reinstalling the game, and I've done it a few times now.

The only other mods I had installed at the time were the community hairstyles pack that someone updated to unstable, a character creation extension mod, and the podotheca mod(which has no code, and is purely visual). I don't see how any of them would start throwing around errors involving kineptic stuff. I'll see if I get the same issue if I reinstall, though.

For the record, I was testing this on a server hosted on Mac OS X Mavericks, so maybe there's some kind of issue with the OS and its Starbound setup for some reason? It worked fine in single player, after all...

Okay. I'll try cleanly installing Starbound, adding in nothing but the character extender and kineptic, and see if the issue persists. I'll edit this post with my results if there have been no posts between the time I post this and the time I'm finished.

EDIT:

First I tried just validating the game files through Steam because that takes far less time to complete than a full reinstall. Apparently 3 files weren't properly accounted for. However, upon attempting to start up and join the server again with a brand new kineptic, I received the same errors saying that they couldn't find the initial codexes for kineptic specifically. I had only kineptic and a character extender installed at the time.

Going to (grudgingly) try an actual full reinstall this time...

EDIT 2: Alright. Starbound finished reinstalling(as the unstable version). I launched it again, with only kineptic/character creation extension mod, and the issue is persisting.

I'm starting to think it's an issue with the OS X server software... bleh. That's really weird.

 

It's possible the codices you start with now require corresponding .codexitem files when they didn't before. I'll try adding those when I get home this evening.

 

For reference, Kawa's character creation mod does work in the unstable version, but you have to obtain the latest version from the following link rather than the mod page:

It made me sad too, trust me. But getting a 1-star review that knocks you halfway down the ratings page isn't something I take lightly. Started windows server as admin. Currently using this build + Solear character menu. Created a character with no issue, now running around on a planet. I will let you know if I see an error.

Edit: I've been playing since I downloaded and installed this and have yet to error out.
Edit 2: I think my main problem now is getting them steel armor for survival tech and moon mission. Any thoughts? Which crafting table makes steel armor for these cool cats?

 

I tried it with Kawa's Character Creation mod and it works just fine to me.
Also, I am new to the mod and this is going to bug me until I figure it out, but is it me or do both genders have a bit of a bust or is that supposed to be a tuft of fur?

 

Man, I'm really weirded out that I kept getting those errors and stuff on my end. And it only happened on my personal OS X server, too - single player worked just fine without issue.

I'm glad it's been working for everyone else, though.

 

Oh, server I didn't try and as far as I can tell it doesn't work for me, but it doesn't work for me in the first place, likely because I've never set up a server before.

 

Fluffy chest. With the exception of the face pattern, male and female kineptic are anatomically indistinguishable unless you really go out of your way to find the differences. But you probably would end up with a pretty bad case of being dead (or very close to it) if you tried.

Edit: Male kineptic can grow manes, but it's considered unsightly under most circumstances. Manes are different from long head-fur in that they can grow all the way down the neck:

Didn't Raieth have to do some sort of weird .dsStore or something for her Catalina mod? I vaguely remember hearing something pertaining to that as a compatibility with the mac OS and items.

 

Yeah I was thinking that was what it was, it's neat to learn that sort of stuff and the lore behind these species.

 

Feel free to pick my mind about it; I've given it a lot of thought, but I'm a bit too scatterbrained to put it all in a nice, easy-to-read wiki like Ryu's done with the Avali. I also have a bit of difficulty with the more intricate things like society, culture, etc... then again, they are cats. Cats aren't exactly known for their social behavior

That being said, the kineptic are, in general, very polite but hopelessly informal.

 

I noticed that in the unstable build that the armors don't have any appearance and the description for them is missing there stats, although the effect is still there.
