From what I could tell by the little context that Twitter gives, is that he was thinking of doing both a kickstarter and a pre-order to allow multiple methods of payment for the same perks.

Tiy should just do something to create an avenue for me to THROW MY MONEY AT HIM, and the rest of Chucklefish.

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't Kickstarter meant for projects in much earlier stages of development? Starbound is currently basically in the finishing stages and i'd hazard a guess that we will see a release within 6 months.

A kickstarter would certainly feed the hype some more... But if a kickstarter is on the table, why not kickstart the support & expansions of starbound and give the game to people supporting 15$+ ?

    http://www.kickstarter.com/help/guidelines
So it just depends on what exactly is getting kickstarted. A project could be "expanding the base game", with the base game as a reward.

I thinking that I'd rather just a pre-order, but kickstarter has a bigger chance of getting more funding for the game and future updates.

Only issue I really have is that Kickstarter doesn't take paypal. x.x Not everyone has a credit card.

    Both definitely.
    I'm leaning more towards kickstarter.
Maybe he can do early access when the game is like a month or so away?

Personally, I'd rather just buy straight from Chucklefish so they don't lose too much money on the sale.

no. Kickstarter is meant for a little different purposes. It is not selling platform. It is meant for funding original ideas, to bring them to life. Starbound is already "developed". And if there is something like Steam or direct sells it should not be on Kickstarter. The whole idea of "all or nothing" funding denies "buying" Starbound via Kickstarter.

And please, before you say "yes, do it, why not", read at least Kickstarters guides for projects, what is purpose and why they want to exists.

I agree, I'd rather just pre-order the game from Chucklefish rather than go through kickstarter, 's just my opinion but I think adding a kickstarter to the system could over-complicate things.

Nah, no Kickstarter. They will be too busy manufacturing and shipping the reward tiers.

managing a kickstarter campaign is a sh*tload of work, and i don't think it would be beneficial to the devs when the game is already that far into development. don't quote me on that, but getting the game on steam seems to be much less work, especially with the new "early access" category. that, and a drm free version via chucklefishs website.
