Keg/Bee House nerf, bit of a overkill there, no?

For those who don't know yet, Kegs now require Oak Resin and Bee Houses Maple Syrup to craft. For new players this will end up crippling their ability to afford some early on, for more experiences ones this is mostly just an annoyance as they'll likely go around putting Tappers (which for new players are actually expensive and later extremly cheap) on literarely every tree.

Kinda curious about what caused this change, it seems a bit "uncalled for", yes people were making money and quite a bit but not to the extend that it's game breaking since by the time it really takes off the money bottlenecks are a thing of the past anyway and one is busy planting golden cat statues everywhere.

Well guys, I'm off. All those trees in Stardew need tappers.

It's already live for me. So I guess the change was a minor one that went unnoticed so far.

i think blue/cranberries are more broken than any of those.
          he should nerf these instead.
make the profit more similar with other crops.

yes, there would still be the best crops. but if the profit gap is as big as it is now.
it felt as if it's a mandatory to plant blue/cranberries. the different between planting those crops and not is too big, breaking the crops balance.
and it doesn't make sense that some other crop that is harder/longer/limited to plant/harvest have a lower profit.

if berries are that common, the price should be lower because of supply&demand rule.

and, yes. i now this is single player game.
still, i don't like if one way or another I was being push to plan/do one particular thing because it is obviously the BEST way to do it.
          the gap is too big

More uses for tapper stuff then. It's a mostly forgotten produce, so it's good to see it have more uses.

Seeing farms with hundreds of Kegs, making the thing a bit more of a hustle to get is understandable.

Given, Kegs aren't the only thing that's currently too powerful right now. But it's good to see it being handled.

Frankly, i dont think this is overkill.
It might be for some end-game players now, but if you just start and gather those resins and syrups from the begining, you could have a large batch of them by the time you unlocked kegs. I dont have this problem as I planted 6 trees of each with a tapper at the start of my game.
But, the impact for bee houses is huge because this is seen by most people to earn some cash easy early in the game (got 18 of them which is not much but sustains me for most part). and maple syrupe takes 7-8 days for a bottle, but by the time its the second year, you could have a nice amount of bee hives.

As for why, dont you think that having over 100+ kegs and earn a lot of cash would be game breaking if CA would add more end-game content in the form of upgrades, items, animals, seeds,....
I think this change is a great balance for the game itself.

@Veckx, couldn't disagree more. It ultimatively changes nothing. In fact it punishes people starting a new game as tappers are way more expensive to them than they are to already etablished farms. All it does is force people to jump through an extra hoop to reach their goal. New players wont exactly stockpile that Resin and Maple either, as they usually need the money they can get from it. At worst this will end up making Bee Hives and Barrels go the way of the fence, i.e many people simply not bothering with them.

Also preservation jars are still around and the money isn't that much worse than kegs, they still don't require any special ingredient so you'll likely simply see those take over. At which point CA nerfs them also, which is when people will move on to the next thing in line that is the most convenient/lucrative.

As for the rest, HOW exactly is making a lot of money game breaking? I feel "game breaking" is often times thrown around as a staple reason cited to push any change people are in favour of. Having a lot of money sure as hell doesn't break the game, heck you don't even need most of it as there's nothing to invest into aside from things such as massive gold cat statue whom despite their perk are mostly just vanity. Balancing is another thing, as there's no "competitive" mode there's no need to make the good things as terrible as the bad ones. Heck if anything he should probaly bring up the bad crops to be all around better when he starts nerfing the better ones. Otherwise we hit just some downward spiral that'll stop at the lowest commom denominator.

But apparently people having fun building a distillery, or bee hives is wrong. Needs to be stopped! Why?

This is no competitive multiplayer game but a relaxing open-ended Harvest-Moonlike game. Are we now really in the need for "nerf this, nerf that"? Look at the mods, what are among the first released? Slower Time, Easier Fishing, Durable Fences, Better Sprinklers etc., so why make the game more tedious and laborious?

If these two items required Syrup and Resin to begin with, nobody would be complaining. The stuff isn't even all that hard to obtain if you have a goal for what you're working for. Copper really isn't all that hard to obtain, and you can toss tappers onto trees both in and outside of the farm. It's best to take a step back and to take a few breaths to clear your mind, instead of jumping to conclusions like 'This is trying to stop people having fun!' or 'It's too much work now!'

                      It's fine.

You couldn't have missed my post further if you had actively tried. You've taken a single thing, how this makes it far more cumbersome, slow and irritating for new players who usually have better venues to invest their money early one than into tappers. Went on to disregard everything else I've written as to how this doesn't affect players who have already set this up beyond them now spamming tappers everywhere as they're forced to jump through an extra step (and a fairly time consuming one with 6/8 days production cycles) so you could pretend I'm crying about copper.

You now, I wasn't actually angry more exhasperated about this change. But after reading your post, I now am. Not about the topic at hand, your inability to comprehend what people have written but about you and the tone of your post.

I like it, it goes well with the changes to grandpa. He's already stated he's working on the post-marriage play and will likely use these minor tweaks to build a more balanced economy. Right now by year 3, you're distilling 50 bottles of wine and money becomes a non-issue. With this change you'll accomplish the same thing, but with more time/effort spent to get there. Year 3 is a bit early for the MC to be too rich to care about anything. It also sets up things for more Year 3+ content.

I would understand this complaint if the game had been out for several months already, but that's just not the case, it's still very very new, and as player play the game CA is going to make changes when he takes notice of the game being played in a way he didn't intend. If he's making these changes 6 months from now, then you might have a legitimate complaint, otherwise it's just laziness. Games have rules, when it's a new game, things are going to change. I'm sorry if this is a revelation for you, but it's pretty much expected of new games to be completely different things than they end up being months/years later. Example: Fallout 4, they're coming out with a rather large gameplay change in the Survival Difficulty, adding things both wanted and unwanted, but ultimately achieving the vision the dev's wanted.

So now you'll just have to tap some trees a bit earlier. If you're new and this is what put you off of this game, then I highly doubt you had much intention to play it in the first place.

Its all a matter of opinion and you do have some valid points.

Its true that there are still a lot of ways to earn a lot of money fast (working on truffel farm, that truffel oil hmmmmm, and you got to love the pigs) and people find new things to earn a lot of cash. This is commonly known.
As for new players, I do understand what you mean, in the beginning earning money is kind of hard i did make the mistake my self of selling everything I harvested, foraged and mined and you notice afterwards that some things will take more time to achieve. But in my mind i find it logicaly that end game items require more to achieve/create. And i like the idea of something that is available in the early game and often forgoten to be actualy used for end-game items. This makes the loop closed.

It is true that this limits the player in a certain way to achieve what He or She wants to do with their farm. But after some time this becomes common and the problem most people have with this change now go away.

Now as for the game breaking part, I didn't mean that making a lot of money is game breaking, but having too much in the end might ruin what has to come. This could ofcourse be solved if some new end-game items would cost a lot of cash to get which actually promotes earning a lot of money as this is a certain goal to work to.

But most of all, do not forget CA is a one man team. Its truelly amazing what he created and this game is just incredible already. But I'm sure that CA has his vision on how the game should be.

What economy? There isn't one. This isn't the X-series with an actual economy going on. You grow crops and other things, you throw them into the shipping box, you receive money does not constitute to an "economy" by any means. Money becomes a non issue way before that. There's people planting EVERY surface with crab pots, using no bait/no trash skills to rake in insane ammounts for even LESS effort. Barrels are also completely unaffected by this change and barely behind kegs in terms of efficiency.

And for any halfway decent player, money stops being an issue somewhere summer Year 1.

Year 3+? What are you even talking about. Most people swim in money way before that. All this does is add another extra annoyance for people way past that, while punishing people just getting into the game.
"No creativity allowed, you play this as I want you to!" is a terrible approach. It often ends up making a lot of things very stiffling and unfun. Hey I get it, I love the game and thus want to see CA succeed the same as everyone else here does. Doesn't mean you have to like this kind of approach.
Actually, not at all. There's usually changes, mostly bug fixes and such but games remain at their core the very same game that was initially released.
]quote]Example: Fallout 4, they're coming out with a rather large gameplay change in the Survival Difficulty, adding things both wanted and unwanted, but ultimately achieving the vision the dev's wanted.[/quote]
Can't be compared, Survival Difficult is an extra difficulty which the player can chose to partake in or not. Thus any players who do not, are completely unaffected by this new mode being added.
Do we really want to compare steam statistics now?

Oh I don't, not at all. I love the game and quite a bit which is exactly why I'm against changes I find "questionable" and see leading down the same path fence decay has lead. Many people simply not bothering with them. Thus nerfing something usually just leads to player falling back on the next best thing, which can easily lead into a downward spiral. The same goes for "this wasn't intended", I've seen games go two ways about it. Some devs roll with the punches (like the one from Dig or Die) and adapt around it, others such as the AI:Wars Fleet Command one try to force people to play the game as they've envisioned them no derivation or creativity allowed. I've experienced both and I know which one seemed to have turned out better and lead to a more fun game and thus I'm mostly in favour of it.

I'm happy with this change. Bee hives give FREE MONEY, and barrels MULTIPLY THE WORTH of every produce.
These two things are literally the best way to get a lot of money early on, (and sustain any need for money later on) and it gives the game more longevity, which is a good thing.
Additionally, one could also look ahead a bit and realize they need tappers. I was swimming in copper well before I started (ab)using the barrels.

All in all, it makes the game a tad more complicated, and that's a good thing.
Tapper produce was being underused anyway.

I understand what you wrote. All I am saying is that you should calm down and not be so infuriated about the whole thing. Yes, it can take a little bit longer for newer players to be able to set up honey and keg farms. Yes it does cause an additional step that requires waiting on additional resources in order to craft certain items. However, this is not a game-breaking issue in any way. This is not something to just speed through. It is something that people can plan for in the long run. It's something that they can see 'Oh hey, I need Maple Syrup/Oak Resin for this' and try to work that out.

You are acting as if it becomes impossible for people set up keg/hive farms now, and you are acting as if this was purposefully done to destroy peoples' fun. You are acting as if new players are incapable of looking at what they need and planning for what they need. Again, think about this for a second. If these two items required the Syrup/Resin to begin with, would you view this as something that would prevent new players from doing their thing?

This game is not about trying to win. It does not prevent people from going Tapper Master on every tree they can in order to get what they need. It just requires a little more time, which is pretty much what this game itself involves. It's a game of patience where you don't have to rush even though you can.

But now that i noticed, the recipe for a loom includes 1 tar. Is this a change too, or is it the same as the bee hives and kegs.
