hmm, yeah but only in star systems and they wouldn't' chase you across the universe
because that would be extremely annoying

agreed, i was thinking more along the lines of that as well

it would sort of work like gta's wanted system or metal gear where if you lay low for a certain amount of time they'll either move on from being in a alerted state to being in a cautious state or stop looking for you altogether

It would be quite a thing to code in, probably gonna end up being a mod though,I think. It would be pretty awesome.

yeah i would imagine it would be pretty difficult especially the way im envisioning it

they would spawn somewhere on the planet you're on following a set path until they find you or if you hide until a timer runs out they leave

    Nobody?

I would love to see this get in the game. I want to have some consequence for my actions.

When I watched a friend of mine mow down an entire city worth of helpless civs I thought the exact same thing.

At the time, I came upon the idea that if this game ever implements some form of PVP, a karma system could be tied into this to generate head bounty and bounty hunting quests dynamically.

But I like the idea of a space police, maybe depending on your criminal level they appear more often and are better armed.
Eventually if they manage to kill you, they throw you in a penal colony...
Either just as a respawn screen with a bit more length as a punishment, and some pixels deducted for legal fees...
Or you end up in an actual prison without any items, where you must stay for one day with an opportunity to do some quests (Quest: Build a shank. Derp :D) upon which you get released and transported back to your ship...

I think this could add a lot to the game. Basically, one of the main things that make this game unique from others in the genre is the stronger RPG elements which could be beefed up a bit more from things like this.

  10. This is an awesome idea.

I don't care for this. Too many games have these kind of systems and in none of them is it well implemented. Every single one of them I just end up farming one way or the other for some reword I get for being pure.

However I think what you are asking for is a wanted system, a bounty system, or in general an infamy rating, not karma. This I could agree on, but there would need to be a way to push it down, someone to bribe like in Elder Scrolls.

The problem is... If everyone is dead who is telling them that you were the one that killed them?

In Star Trek, no one really knew if the starship captains were following the 'Prime Directive' or not... unless they put it in their reports to the council.
So unless they add some kind of 'space-council', whom is it that would get mad at us? The race on other planets whom we could also just go to and kill off like we did the first time? Eventually there must be witnesses... and ways to get out of the problem, as well.

There's gotta be something to hold us responsible... Though I do agree that some type of consequences for murder would be very nice.

  13. Both of the above posts are very good ideas.

I especially like the idea of a mass-effect style space council.

Murder should have punishments that vary by race (Depending on what race was effected,or what town you are in) Some might completely ignore it, but some might demonize you for it.

Infamy was the word I was looking for, thank you!

Space traders arrive at the village for their weekly delivery of spare parts and food.
Upon arrival, they realize the entire settlement is deserted, it's denizen slaughtered in the streets.

Warp patterns and surveillance sattelites around the planet identify the craft of the perpetrator.

    Thus, criminal prosecution begins.

Those that got murdered most likely have off-world families that seek revenge and will post your bounty, or the planet has been taken under the protection of some mega-corp for it's resources or payment of exorbitant sums.

  16. I like the way you think.

I think the best idea would be to form the whole thing in a new post, integrate the suggestions, add some shout outs and credits to those who helped, and makes sure the new post is titled properly.

    INFAMY - CRIME AND PUNISHMENT
WANTED - PLAYER - DEAD OR ALIVE
SPACE COPS - BAD BOYS BAD BOYS, WHAT YOU GONNA DO?

This way people can see it and know what they are about to read. I only came here to bash the idea of Karma myself, but was surprised when I saw what you were really trying to do.
