    I don't think I'll be working on any other races any time soon, a lot of effort is already going in to just this mod alone at the moment. n.n;

    Speaking of stuff going in to the mod...

    Now with Kangaru flag. :)

    Whoops, must have let that one slip through the gap (the side of the stomach that is) but I went ahead and fixed it for the next update. As for the tail, it's intentional as the thickness increases the closer to the body it is.

    I'll have an update available soon™ but I just want to get a few things finished before release.

    Until the issue with layers on armor and clothing is resolved and the nasty bug with png orders in armor/clothing causes the UUID crashing bug with player files is fixed, this mod is now indefinitely postponed until these problems are rectified by the devs.

    There is nothing else I can do especially after being told "stage 1 isn't you" and "you're always negative" over on ##starbound-modding by multiple people. Being refused help after 24 hours of waiting for answers, even from the devs themselves means I can't make any progress on this mod what so ever.

    ##starbound-modding is a very lightly moderated, unofficial (unrelated to Chucklefish) channel. There are a ton of people in there who are mostly idle. At any given time, there may be a three-armed possum, a piece of moldy chocolate cake, a Post It note, and maybe one or two random people to answer questions. Sometimes the talkative person at the time will happen to be a jerkwad. You can't take it to heart too much. It was also the holidays, and still kind of is. People have a lot of shit going on.

    The devs aren't obligated to answer modding questions. This is the Wild West right now, and they have tons of work to do without answering a lot of usually very redundant questions. Just because their name shows up in the channel list doesn't mean they're monitoring what's going on.

    To say you were "refused" help implies malevolence or choice. You just happened to be unlucky in receiving help, since there is no obligation for anyone to provide help, even though we do try. If you come back and ask again, you might have better luck. Or you might actually be asking for stuff that's not available.

    I guess I just needed some personal time to myself to do other things for a while till I'm ready to continue working on the mod. I'm easy to frustrate when things don't work as expected and people don't always give the response I need to get over the problem.

    Even if I did update the mod now, there's a patch that will be coming out in the next couple of weeks which might mean reworking a handful of things when that happens (they haven't even really given us any details on what to expect for us modders). I know some people are expecting what I have completed so far, I'm just upset that some of the things I wish I could do just can't be done properly until certain functions are put in to the engine (namely "controllable" layer settings in configs for armor/clothing).

    What I can say to expect with the next update.

    * Kangaru beginner equipment and recipes are done (in time for the "great wipe" update).
    * Kangaru tier 3 and 4 armor sets are complete.
    * 2 sets of Kangaru clothes have been added (more planned but on hold till layering controls are implemented).
    * More color schemes added for fur (light, normal and dark).

    After digging through the mod, I found that the Kangaru mod isn't using the "__merge" : [], function like my other race mods for the quest file.
    I decided to try tweaking said file in your mod to this:
    Code:
    {
      "__merge" : [],
      "initialquests" : {
        "kangaru" : [ "kangarututorial.gearup" ]
      }
    }
    Now my game doesn't crash when loading characters from other modded races.

    Try downloading again and make sure the quest.config is correct. I just found that the site was retaining five version v0.3b uploads (the older four "broken" versions were just removed) and you may have gotten one of those by mistake.

    Just a quick heads up, this little snippet of information was posted a few days ago (only found out about it last night).

    In other words, I'll need to figure out how PAK'ing works and make sure that it will work before uploading the next version. At the same time, anything in the patch could change how some things work currently (they could change armor values or effects for all I know). Hopefully nothing too major will "break" something important.

    Historical precedent tells me it'll be a ZIP by another name.

    Yeah but not all PAK formats (Doom vs Quake formats) are technically the same when it comes to compression or otherwise. Even then, the devs could have their own program prepped for use or have specific directions needed to make a PAK work correctly with the engine.

    Until the details about the PAk format are given out, I have no idea what they have in store for us.

    Quake used... PK# files, I think, which were renamed ZIPs. Doom used WAD, which was a completely different thing entirely and I don't think it was even compressed. To round it out, BUILD (Duke3D et al) used GRP files, which weren't compressed either. My own game used to have a GRP-like format, but then I switched to renamed ZIPs.

    There are a few common things that distinguish most pakfiles from regular ZIP, and they're all limitations on the format: no encryption, only Store and Deflate, often enough no Zip64...

    I'd bet you real money that SB pakfiles are just the same as we already use for distribution. The only thing I'm not certain of is the root element.
