Whether you consider it a bug or not, here's how it currently works:

    • Items dropped on purpose persist until picked up. (Like with Q)
    • Items dropped as a result of a player action do not persist.
    • Items dropped by a hardcore player do not persist.
    • The time before an item is removed is based on player proximity -a hardcore player who dies deep underground will still have the opportunity to retrieve their gear, but once they are in the area they better pick it up within a couple minutes or.... poof!

So thats the elites attitude of modern gaming huh? Let the new players suffer an avoidable loss "Dat ell Tech um casuals huh guys" wow. This is shocking to see what this industry has become. As for quitting. I announced in my OP that I was tacking a break untill the game was finished as this was a rough loss. Didnt bitch and moan about that or demand reparations. I knew it was ery beta and that was my attitude from the start. Please please do explain your issue with me? Is it that you believe I did dumb thing? The reason I did was addressed by another poster who I quoted and said "Only this guy gets why I did what I did" sorry my action of box breaking offended you. I just dont know what else to say besides its sad what we all as gamers have become. I just am losing faith/.

Because you made an original post that contained a lot of frustration and anger, and not a lot of coherent thought. You didn't ask for understanding, or empathy. You said what you did, then you said you were done with the game until official launch.

You didn't ask for help, so you didn't get any. And when you were given help (This is not a bug) you lashed out and insulted the person responding to you. When you lash out at people trying to help you, then you discourage anyone else from helping you. You escalated this all by yourself.

just calm down its a beta don't play in beta if you cant handle a bug with out crying and shouting on forums then don't play, also if you just drop all your items on the ground as a way of moving them instead of doing it box by box your kinda dumb

I was met with immediate hostility. Again I did not escalte. I have stayed here and continued this discussion reguardless of the horrible ugly turn it took. I may have had some anger in my OP but not at you people. Your anger was with me, and that is a game changer. It take 2 to tango pal

came here to report a "Bug" (at this point dont know what to call it) again YOUR hostility is what confuses me

For the record I have not once gotten as low as name calling. Really people Im the problem here? This community needs a reality check. At least some of you. Have been some very kind people in here also agreeing with me

If your curious about why I did such a thing (instead of labeling me dumb with no understanding of the situation), Re read the thread. Several people called out the reason it was done, and they where correct so I didnt need to say it my self, and that really goes to the root of all of this. No take all or drop all options causes frustration in large item moves

Oh look at all the shits you gave about someone telling you why it happened. You told him no, he's wrong, it's a bug.

As for being an "elite of modern gaming", casual gamers still should be aware of how things despawn in games, and the easiest way to learn is by mistake. As to my issue with you, it is how you come off, you were not polite, simple as that. When I first read your OP, I didn't comment, I felt sorry for you but thought it was your own mistake, then I saw how you were responding to other people and chimed in.

    Dude.

    Chill.

If you want people to be nicer to you, you can't insult them left and right, and things like 'this community needs a reality check' are you doing exactly that.

that is a tame insult conspired to what it was a reply too. I need to chill but im being called names? again confused here. No name calling started with me

What I bolded is not an issue in games like this one. Why is it here

A tame insult is still an insult. Just because someone else was rude to you does not allow you to be rude back to them. It means they were rude to you, and they shouldn't have been. You don't need to make the situation worse by responding with an insult.

Also, there have been kind people that disagreed with you, as well as kind people that agreed with you. "Kind" and "Agreeing with you" are spelled differently for a reason.

You need to be more concise before this statement gains validity, what can be construed as crying and shouting? People are playing in beta so they can give feedback to the developers, it is not a matter of handling anything. It's a matter of handling it, being affected by it and then offering feedback to the developers.

The insult is unneeded, simple as that. You can't fight fire with fire, not here.

Basically, I half agree with the OP. Too many people seem to have this kind of mindset and make this statement a lot:
But then again, the aggression is not needed.

Indeed just seems noone is after the rude people when they go at me. When I get snippy back I sure hear it. -____- sigh. idk. Sorry. I like this game. This seems bad for the game to me. Idc what happenes from this point on. Ill check back on starbound in a month or so. I hope people get everything they hope for :) pce

lol ok one person i haha. You made my last statement about noone going after rude people invalid. Kudos on restoring my faith in people while on the internet :)

Btw to all the people who acted like I know nothing about games. It as been my hobby of choice since 3 years old. I even gave developing my own game a shot and got some decent work done. Maybe ill finish one day. I just resent the implication that I dont understand games the most. Many games got their despawn timers in a very good and healthy place. Some have no despawn timer at all. I know people... magic right -___-

You're very passionate about the game, and you care a lot. That comes through loud and clear.

But, you made posts with a ton of passion and not a lot of...uh, filter. So, a lot of people were rubbed the wrong way, and responded to that.

It is what it is, and we can't go back now. All we can do is work to go forward, with less insults on all sides.

Apparently you didn't read my previous reply...

It is completely unnecessary to destroy the boxes if your goal is to gather your stashed materials in your inventory and have them automatically stack. The proper way to do this would be to take your pick/drill/mattermanipulator and directly "mine" the box. in this way you pick in and everything that was in it up automatically, stacking the items in your inventory at the same time. That is what I do, albeit on a smaller scale (i.e. a few containers at a time).

At the end of the day, the only difference would be that you have to "mine" a few containers at a time, instead of breaking them all at once. This is actually a more efficient way to do it, since ideally you were already organizing your swag by type in the original boxes anyways. If you break everything all at once, your previous organization goes out the proverbial window.
