So what if a meteor just hits your storage room full of containers? Just.... oh well lost all progress? Sorry for complaining but this is a serious thing they need to examine, but thanks for all the attitude for seeing a huge issue with a great game.

EDIT: Maybe the solution is to make containers unbreakable with items inside... whatever the answer is it certainly dosnt feel "working" in its current form.

If you want to keep stuff safe put it on your ship. And don't try to move it all at once. Who knows, maybe once ship combat is released even shipbound stuff may not be immune. That could make things interesting.

If a meteor hits your chest room then your whole base is destroyed. If that happens will you likely be suggesting that everything a player builds be invincible given your suggested solution. You made what everyone here would consider a terrible decision and that's on you. It's not a game issue it's a player issue.

I have a hard time taking this thread seriously given the hostility of your replies to people explaining that it's just game mechanics working as intended. It seems like you want something to blame calling this a "huge issue" as if it's an over site.

I was put in a hostile state as I was immediately insulted for assuming it would have something like minecraft or terraria to prevent this. It does seem like a flaw in the game to me. Sorry you disagree.

Minecraft items disappeared too...... and if you died far away (and didn't cheat ( teleport to a friend)) you wouldn't have been able to get back in time

    it's not really a bug ....

i mean, if you actually played the game, you would've noticed that sometimes things disappear after X amount of time.

I don't know why you thought it would be a genius course of action to break all your boxes to move stuff.....

What you can suggest however... Is that Starbound could consider making chests that contain items, impossible to break (or you have to press a button to break it or something). It would prevent something like this from happening ever again.

If you did that in Minecraft beta the game would have crashed, people used to crash servers doing things like that. You came here angry, got told you made a bad choice and remained angry.

Umm have you tried destroying multiple full chests on minecraft? You think there will be no loss of items? You're looking back through rosy glasses. Look I'm not trying to attack you, it's just that this issue you are complaining about is endemic to computer games as a whole.

So....why exactly did you choose to destroy the boxes instead of "mine" them directly? If you would have mined the box directly, your character would have picked everything up in the container as well as the box itself. No need to make new boxes and you get to organize at the same pace you would have originally.

I understand your frustration, but the simple fact is that you cut corners and it didn't work out. It appears that the forum members in this thread do not think too highly of the fact that you immediately blamed the game and exhibited simultaneously a sense of self importance and lack of self objectivity.

Terribly sorry if I seem to be insulting you, but what on earth made you think it was a good idea to break all of your boxes, and let all of your items sit on the ground for any length of time while you arranged them? For that matter, how the hell is that easier ot more effecient in any way then just taking stuff out of two-4 boxes at a time and organizing it?

This to me is in the same vein of thinking as the people who go. " Well what happens if I get exactly enough coal to go to an asteroid belt, and set my home there, and don't have any saplings, or any dirt, WHAT THEN DEVS I'M STUCK NOW FOREVER this game sucks you have to fix this obviously broken issue." I understand our purpose of Beta-Testing a game is to try and break it, trying to break it, and trying to screw yourself over are not the same things at all, based on the assetsconfig, this seems like less of a bug, and more something added to help users with low-end PCs not undergo lag death of hundreds of items dropping at once. Forgive me if I seem to be "throwing fuel on the fire" but to be earnest, you made a really poor decision in how you chose to move and re-organize your things.

That said I'd like to see platforms and Chests not INSTANTLY DIE when you hit them with a bone hammer, the hours I've lost to re-organizing everything because I forgot to press Z and accidently left clicked in my ship. e_e

I'm not sure if this is correct. Once when I died and lost my stuff in hardcore-mode it took me roughly 30 minutes to get past enemies to get to it. It was all there! Another time a friend in my party died and all his stuff vanished after about 5 minutes, except for one leather helmet.
There seems to be a randomness-factor involved!

I'm pretty sure the "drops are persistent" only applies to things you drop using the Q key. Anything that falls out of chests, boxes, crates, lockers, monsters, etc is not kept on the ground forever. Also, if all or most of your boxes were full, no wonder things started disappearing instantly. That's a whole lot of items to keep track of for the game, so it probably deleted most of it to keep the game running smoothly.

Both of these have already been addressed. I tested it for player drops, player breaks, breaking a chest, and killing a mob. All have the same despawn rate of about 5 minutes. As well, if an area with items is not loaded, the items will not despawn (or countdown to despawn) until the area is loaded.

Eh, it's been like that for me. Grey items would despawn quickly, while anything "critical" (blue, green, purple, etc.) would take like 10 minutes to despawn.

I think I understand why the OP destroyed all the boxes at once, stacking. If you do it his way the items in your inventory stack automatically making the sorting task much much easier. I feel sad for them and I think too much faith was placed in the announcement that player items would persist also there is the whole empirical evidence of seeing items still on the ground days later.

It may not be a bug but it's worth being aware that the behaviour we see for a bunch of stuff on a planet that hangs around for ever might not be reproducible when the number of items involved climbs too high.

Wow, would NEVER considering breaking chests so items drop all at once in any game...let alone break ALL your chests.

The thing is, when stacked items drop, they don't drop in stacks. ONE stack of wood planks drops 1000 individual wood planks. If you had multiple stacks of 100+ items in multiple chests, you ain't dropping the 16 items from 16 chest slots...you are dropping thousands of individual items on the ground at once and expecting the game to handle that? There's no way. Those items probably disappeared almost instantly lest the game explode.

Destroying one 16 slot chest full of 1000 stack items dumps 16,0000 items in the world to process instantly. Just can't happen.

PS: it didn't happen in Terraria because you couldn't destroy chests with items in it. And you couldn't drop stacks, only toss them out one at a time, thus couldn't flood the works like that.

The real problem with this game is blobbing, Vizunah and Seafarer do not have skill they just have a way more numbers. That being said I think that Ascended take too long to craft and the dungeons are too hard.

That being said I think that you should not be able to level up from cooking/crafting ect because its too easy for people to pay real money and just level a new character.

That being said they really need to work on putting in a bit more end game features, just saying that the whole game is end game does not cut it in my opinion.

That being said i'm not too fond of the trains that keep forming, they are like the WvWvW blobs and it takes the fun out of pve.

I can understand why OP is peeved at the replies he's getting...he just lost all his stuff. Your fault or not, that's a pretty damn frustrating thing to happen, and to just be told "lol it's beta your fault" would piss almost anyone off.

In all honesty, all item drops should be persistent, up until a certain limit is reached, where the oldest dropped item is deleted. Or an even better idea, the least valuable items are deleted first (such as dirt blocks).

As to the OP, sorry this happened to you, just be more careful next time.
